View Full Version : Dam wall breaks!!
Well I guess I kind of lied,
but imagine a nice queit day fishing and the dam wall burst, It probably wouldn't be much fun, What do you think would happen?
My guess would be you would only stand a chance of survival if you were up the back fishing the edges....maybe you would get grounded b4 being sucked out into the torrent of water.
The water would race out and basically head up and down stream until it kind of hits a ballance, then come flooding back in(to a degree) kind of like a wave....
I bought this up with my brother the other day when I was Fishing Clarrie Hall and he said just the other day he saw an article saying that wall needed to be strengthened as it is always 100% full, Just coincidence???;D

Sean, mate, where do you come up with these idea's from.
Uh..OK...must be all those herbal teas you ingest.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/wink.gif
But you are meant to drink them, man, not smoke them!http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/cool.gif
Don't tell me next time you won't be fishing just a little more nervously......btw you have no idea some of the shi* in my head, the mods wouldn't like it though so I keep it all to myself....like the steamroller and being strapped to the road!!

What happens to your car?
What happens to your car?
WTF???? Umm......it stays at the boat ramp generally. as it is above the starting water level it would probably be safe!!!;D

I guess you'd be reaching for the lid of the esky pretty quick, make a good boogie board, then you could just enjoy the ride and wave to the people on the bank.

Modern dam walls (note I said modern) are designed to break up gradually in the event of a rupture, earthquake, too much pressure, 1 in 500 year flood ect.
Wivenhoe was recently upgraded to accommodate this, at least that's how it's meant to work.

You've got a good imagination Sean.
Louis
NO NO No !!!!!!! I don't want the dam thing to break up gradually, I want to see what happens when the wall suddenly dissapears.....What would happen do you think?

Hmmm..... not as far fetched as it seems........ stil a bit far fetched.
Aparantly there is a a disaster plan in place in case the wall at summerset fails...... hmmm....... why.......... well there has been a crack in it from very early in the piece....... its been worrying the engineers for decades..........no body speaks about it too much...... but apparantly the pre upgrade wivenhoe wouldnt stop it...... particularly if both were full..............all theis is second hand engineering speculation and summerset stood up to "74" just fine..
but wht would happen if the dam wall failed & you were in there in a boat......
If you were close tothe wall you'd be sucked down like a bug down a plug hole......If you were further up and anchored you'd probaly just be in for a long and muddy walk back to the car.
probaly more the subject of a disaster or action movie, than a probable situation.
now a more likely disaster is fishing up in the north and a big crock taking your anchor like a lure and taking you and the boat for a run:o :o ;D ;D NNNAAAAAAA..... AAAA...AAAA.
Ok back to reality;D
cheers
or, peeing ove the side and a worm like creature making t's way up your pee hole...........hang on......that does happen!!!!

So I am not the only one who has thought of this senario. My precaution would be to have a ridiculously over powered boat. Then when u find yourself being sucked towards doom u just point the bow upstream, unleash the ponys and be left exactly where u were laughing at the poor souls who buzzing around with their mix-masters.
