After my recent dabble in soft plastics on a charter i am keen as to get myself a combo for soft placcy fishing offshore for snapper. I was on that much of a buzz after the trip i didnt get a glimpse of what gear i was using.
The reel were shimano 4000, maybe sienna? but dont know what rod to match it with. Will be fishing mainly in around 30 to 40ft water.
Dont want top of the range but dont want crap either. Any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated.

Jewie, Have A Look At A Shimano Snapper Raider And A Stradic 4000 With Some 15-20lb Braid . Would Be A Good Start .
Regards Josh
what josh said......especialy now that the Old stradic 4000 & 5000 is on special for $169 (runout @m@art tweed price)and a Snapper raider for $115 while your there.
Don't you already have a rig for estuary jew? or if you already have gear for flathead.....ie. 6'6" - 7' rod 2-4kg line class and a 2500 size reel....your in with a shot in the shallows. you may not have the line capacity for the deep stuff, but you'll be able to chase them over the shallow grounds. If you use a super thin braid like Berkley Whiplash in 20lb, you can fit a fair bit of line on. I managed to fit nearly a full 300yds spool of 20lb whiplash on a daiwa Zillion.....this has a similar line capacity as my 2500 size shimano symetre.
cheers roo.

Your right mate, so have rig for estuary jew but the combo i was using left my rig to shame. Very light rod but very powerful in the but, loaded up nicely under strain but didnt take note of make or line class of the rod i was using on the charter. At first i thought this rod will snap if i hook something decent but it was beatiful under strain.
