Hi all

I am considering uprading to a pressed alum boat around 4.6m. I was looking at the quintred 4.6 dory or the Allycraft Indian. ;D

The quinnie comes from a well known brand and I have been impressed with their boats in the past but the allycraft has the deeper hull (1.22m vs 1.14 mdory)

without opening a huge worm can

Are the quinnies generally of better quality or go with the deeper allycraft ?

I maily want to do inshore reef fishing and safety is paramount
Any replies are welcomed.

Laugag,
I think you'll find the allycraft is a bit wider too.
I have the 445 sioux allycraft, with wide gunnels. Good boat now I've modified it to suit my fishing.
I was looking at both brands also when I brought mine, went with the best deal in the end.

I've got a 4.6 2006 Dory, I couldn't be happier.
In my decision i just didn't think about how high and wide but i went a little deeper with things like: how deep the V is, build quality, resale, etc.

One other reason i went dory was the bottom only had presses every now and again therefore the ribs touched more of the hull/bottom. And in my book the more of the ribs touch the hull the better. (should minimise the cracks)

Along the lines of HDs post above subtract the side height from the overall to get a rough idea of how deep it is where it matters.

Number of full width ribs is a very big deal IMO. Ribs bulkheaded and full width, well it just doesn't get any better!:)

Hi,

I was looking at the same comparison last year. I went the 4.6 dory in the end. Apart for that mentioned previously (resale, confidence in build) what swayed me was if I went an Ally with my local dealer Id have to go for a yamaha motor and it was prohibitively expensive overall (went for a Merc+Dory instead). I think they are really both good boats. An Indian looks a big boat in the flesh, but Im happy with the Dory for what I spent at the time - and it handles the rought stuff well. I know its hard to draw comparisons at this end of the market and sometimes I think we end up splitting hairs when comparing the leading tinnie builders...

Hi,

I was looking at the same two boats myself along with the stacers. I ruled out the stacer as it only had 1.6mm sides, whereas the quinnie and the allycraft had 2mm sides. My choice was to buy the Ally craft indian as it was a lot bigger boat for the money, had a price of around $12,500, with a 40hp elhpto merc, painted hull and locally made trailer. Advised to get local trailer by dealer as I live on the central coast of NSW and warranty work on these requires shipping back to factory. After all of this I came into some extra funds which allowed me to buy a 5 metre centre console Brooker with a 60hp Yammie 4 st all painted and several other bits for $19,000. Near enough to locally built for me and it comes with 3mm plate sides and bottom.

In your case mate I would go with the Ally craft they seemed to be as good as the quinnie.

All the best and good luck,

Nathan

Hi, A mate of mine has had an 4.65m Allycrallycraft indian since new in 2002, and is quite happy with it.

It is a quite wide and deep boat, and it has quite high sides which is handy when going out to the reefs off double Island Point etc

It is powered by an '02 50 Yamaha 2 stroke, but a 60 would be better when heading down the pin with camping and fishing gear for 4 days.

So as you can see I recommend the allycraft.

I have recently purchased my 2nd allcraft in the form of a 4.1 m Rhino , so I believe they are quite a good boat.

Cheers
Scott
