Hi Team.

What is better for jiggin in water up to 40m of water - 4.9:1 or 6.4:1?

I am looking at the Saltist in particualr.

I have read conflciting opinions on high ratio vs low ratios on jigging.

Pros and cons of these 2 ratios?

I am looking to match a Saltist to a TCurve DeepJig 200.

Which size saltist (50H, 40H, 30TH or 30H) is ideal for this rod?

Main differences between these 4 models?

It seems weight does not vary by much at all - 60grams.

Does strength of gearing improve over the range?

I don't want something too heavy, yet not be underpowered.

the main difference beetween these reels is how much line the can pack and how heavy they are(grams). I have a tryrons 30 with 50lb braid on it and i am getting sick of holding it all day so im getting a saltist 40H for bottom bashing, simply because its light.
i dont know if thishas helped you in any way but i tried,
cheers,
jamie

Yes, You have helped very much indeed because I too have just purchased a TYR30 I thought I was going to use for bottom bash but after reading all related posts on this forum, I will purchase the Saltist as well - and use the TYR30 for trolling, livebaiting.

What will u bedoing with your TYR30 then?

What line/rod will u use with the 40H?

Also Cobia, your thoughts on the different ratios of these Saltists?

WHy you choose the 4.9:1 (40H) over 6.4:1?

Do u think the faster ratio woudl beenfit you in anyway? Will u be jigging?

No i dont usally jig but i will put the 40H on a 15-24kg livefiber with 50lb braid and the TYR30 i will pack it with 50lb mono for big mackrel. On my TYR30 I have it on a 15-24kg shimano tiapan roller tip.
The ratio of them could only depend on the drag( STRONG). A fast ratio is good for getting a fish strait in (skull Draging ) but i cant see a huge benifit.
Cheers,
Jamie

i have a 40h saltist with 50lb dyneema braid with a live fibre 15-24 kg rod. Love the whole combo cause really lite compared to the tyrnos. i even wouldnt mind a penn spinfisher cause we have 3 of them 650, 750, 850 and they are really light and would be pretty good for jiggin. The higher ratio means u can retrieve your fish or line faster especially the depths that we sometimes fish in... Comparing that trynos to the saltist was a huge difference aye jamie!!!! LOL...

cheers alex

Thanks boys.

How woudl the T-Curve Jig200 rod compare to the 24kg live fibre rod when used with the 40H?

Also, your thougths on the much less drag strength the 40H has comapred to the TYR30?

Cobia - i am keen to know why you chose a taipan extreme for trolling and not others liek t-curve200 or others??

what is it about the taipan that makes you comit to it?

The tiapan is actully a rod my dad gave me in exchange for some skateboard ramps i had(he just wanted the wood)
The Tiapan is a resonably stiff rod but when the drag is applied it feels great to hang onto. Its a medium action rod and the t-curve is a slow actoin. Personnaly i would preffer the t-curve
cheers.

P.S. Grab the 40H, my mate has it. he loves it

How often are you gonna have your drag on 12 kilos,
i have mine set to 8 kg and that slows nearly anything down;D

Why 40H? It only holds more line as I understand...

Woudlnt the 30H be btter (smaller and better ergonomically)?

Your thoughts on using it with t-curve Deep jig 400 for 50lb briad?
