Had some Kingaroy and Wondai boys down Friday for my first charter with my DPI&F paperwork coming through in the mail through the week. With gusty SWers forecast, poking around in close was the order of the day. We scratched up a good little collection of fish on baits and plastics with quite a few bustups and snip-offs due to the Schoolies and rugged nature of the bottom. The 1000 and 2000 size reels, 1/4 oz jigheads and 4lb braid did the damage but the boys were amazed you could use such gear offshore. No standout fish but not many U/S fish and just nice pan size Squire around a kilo and a half.

Hi Smithy,
Great work mate. The weather was pretty ordinary last Friday so we stayed in the bay until we were called out to rescue 4 guys in a small Cat near Flinders.
The conditions were very uncomfortable.
Tell us a bit more about your Charter Business so we may be able to help you along.

I'll do it all really out to my 15NM limit. Being on a trailer I will also follow the fish a bit. Spotties when they show up in Hervey Bay are on the agenda in Nov, will be onto the Blacks when they are off the Gold Coast in Jan, will hit up the Sunny Coast in between times for whatever and surprised more people haven't been looking at the DI Pt option but I am now Sunny Coast based. Can't guarentee Reds up there within 15Nm of DI but should be able to scratch up a few good feeds. You have all seen Greg's reports from in close! Stabi is going great. Softest riding aluminium thing I have been in to date. The whole experience is just like fishing with one of your mates in his boat only you are handing a bit of cash over to me to fish in my boat. I am also offering fishing tuition. Pay by the hour or day your boat or my boat. I will take you through sounder and GPS usagage, any brand, anchoring, knots and rigs etc.

Well done Smithy....glad to see you have broken through all the red tape and are getting some hard-earned moolah for what you love doing.
Are you going to fish the Shootout or will you be back up north?
Cheers and congrats
Paul
