The rain means i have a few days off work so i have decided to service some of my reels and leading into summer i pulled out the spin gear. I was as greasing and oiling my tss-4. Normally after I'm finished I just spin the line roller with my finger to see if its working, which is was. But then i ran some line through and pulled and it doesn't seem to spin, so i set it up on rod and pulled some line through and its still not spinning , I then tried a few thing like less oil, more oil, less drag, more drag but it just doesn't turn. This is not a particularly old reel maybe 2 years old and now I'm not sure now if it even spun, as i just used to test it by spinning it with my finger after servicing it (which is done regularly). Whats going on? Why isn't it spinning when line is run through it yet spins easily when i move it by finger. Is this a common problem with the tss-4?

Cheers Chris

Hi Chris this is a common problem with a lot of reels

The first thing i guess is what line are you running braid or mono some of the gelspun lines i use do the same thing don`t ask me why because the truth is i wouldnt have a clue but the same reels spooled with mono or a braid rather that a gelspun do spin under load .

I do not think that it really matters to much whether it spins or not i know that i have not had a problem with bust offs so you might not really have a problem as such .

I hope this useless info helps

Cheers Peter

Its actually spooled with 20lb mono. Does it make a difference that it doesn't spin? The drag still seem smooth and now I'm not sure if it has even spun with line running through it. I always assumed it did because i could spin it with my finger, none the less it has caught me plenty of mackerel and tuna so I'm not sure it matters either?... :-/ .

Cheers Chris

Hi BF.
Just dismantle the roller assy, clean, grease, re-assemble.
Generally this scenario is due to wear.
Replacement parts should be pretty easy to come by for this reel.
It is definitely preferable that the roller turns.
Cheers.
