Hi guys.

I have mate who can give me almost unlimited lead, and all he asks for is some of it returned in the form of sinkers. So here's my question.

What size lead do you use offshore? 6oz, 8oz, 10oz, 12oz, 16oz, 24oz???
What sizes would you use more of and what depths?

I have a mate who's boat I go out on from time to time but can't remember what we used, and there is the in-laws boat when I can get it. I am looking at making the sinkers initially for me and a couple of mates, but if I end up with a surplus I might sell some at about half what is charged in tackle stores. This is not an advertisement for sale, all I am after atm is sizes for myself and friends. If I end up selling I will post in the classifieds.

Thanks guys.

Hi mate i think the most common used offshore is the small to medium snapper leads inshore and medium to large snapper leads offshore and theres also the ball sinkers ranging from small to large i use size 7 to 10 outside myself .
I hope this info is helpfull as limited as it is .
Cheers Peter

Hey mate 12 oz is a good generic size for most bottom bashing applications but probably make up some 16 oz and 8 oz as well to cover all bases. I wouldn't bother making 24 oz unless your fishing very deep waters with big currents. I would stick with 12 oz personally as most use ball sinkers if the current is slow or on shallow grounds.

I have also found 12oz to be my most commonly used weight, usually carry about 50% 12's, and rest made up of a balance of 8's and 16's. A few running ball aswell for floatlining. As mentioned it really comes down to depth/current/rig and what you are targetting if anything in particular. If you havn't already had a look there is an artical in one of the latest fishing mags Fishing Monthly or BNB.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll be getting moulds for 8, 12 & 16 oz. Anyone on the Gold Coast got any they don't use anymore?
