I am using a 2000 size Applause. Its a good value reel that seems to perform well. It is my main SP reel and has had a heap of use. I paid less than $80.00 for it so have come out in front

I have a Penn Affinity 4000 and it is brilliant, excellent drag pressure, metal body and has worm drive for the line lay. Bit pricier than the applause though...

My latest investment which I tried out for the first time yesterday is a Pflueger 3-5kg class rod and matched with the Penn Applause 4000. I already have a couple of Penn reels and the performance is second to none in that price point so in my opinion unbeatable value. As for the Pflueger rods I was happy to purchase one but something I know through looking through heaps of them is that for some reason most of them seem to not have their line guides positioned along the backbone of the rod. Some people don't worry about it too much but put a big snapper on the end of it and you will realize the importance of finding the backbones on a rod before positioning the guides. I went through about 6-10 Pflueger rods with the help of my brother before finally finding one that we both thought was a good one. This is the one I ended up with and I didn't catch a huge fish on it but at least tested it on a 40cm squire and it would have to be my favourite little outfit as far as feel and performance is concerned.

I have used a Penn Applause 4000 loaded with 30lb braid matched to a Berkley Dropshot 6' rod to throw & troll lures around Monduran. So far 9 hook-ups for 4 barrra landed, the biggest being 98cm. Reel performed beautifully and fish lost were not due to gear failure.
It's a great reel for the $90 I paid for it at #######.

Mate I have been using an applause 2000 for 18 months now, the reel hasnt skipped a beat, if they came with a spare spool i would be using them on all my sp rods. Best value for money reel I have ever bought by a country mile.
