Headed out for a quick fish with a mate on the weekend. Since we couldn't get any livey's we tried trolling some deep diving lures over the some structure to try and produce some fingermark (our preferred target).

The first troll I had something take my lure fairly hard but not too physical. First fish entering my mind was a small trever by the way it was fighting but to my delight it was a 70cm fingermark. Beauty!! Next thing, as my mate was retrieving his lure for the lap back, his rod nearly jumped out from his hands as his lure got hammered!! A minute or two later he raised another chopper, this time measuring 88cm!!! "Wholly crap" were the words.

The next four trolls raised another two 85cm plus choppers, a 70cm chopper, an accidentally on purpose released spotty mackerel. On our last run I got another monster strike but decided to keep putting along for a few seconds hoping that the other lure would get hit. This was a bad decision as it just straightened the trebble on the big halco and got off.

Not bad for 40 minutes work!!

Vermin,

Thats awsome! I thought the water was still too cool for finger's to get on the chew - blows my argument out of the water.

How deep were you fishing? I've liked the idea of trolling the waterpipe at night for fingers - haven't had a go yet to see if it works but the theory seems sound.

Was it at night or during the day if you don't me asking? I've had some success at night with live bait but trolling for them just seems like a really good idea.

Day troll about 20 feet. Probably go next time and get nothing. Just in the right place at the right time.

Cheers.

Sorry, not my spot x to give away. Just a bit of structure on hard ground.
