Went for a run over to mud this morning and was off to a later start than i like, getting light much earlier now and should be sliding boat in at 5.10 not 5.45, anyway bay was nice and flat and got to north side and started flicking a atomic grub, the grub is a bit bigger a plastic than i normally use but ive seen a few good fish on here lately taken on bigger plastics so i grabbed some 4 inch grubs to try, only got a few casts in when bang off she goes zzzzzzzz peeling line off the shimano sustain, was pretty well pooped by the time i got her in but the fight was clean, i find mud better to land bigger fish than green where they seem to find the coral more often, anyway she went 74.5 cm and is my new PB, after a few photos it was back into the drink for her and it was cool to watch her swim down and out of sight, gear was dropshot 7ft2 2-4kg ( great rod) with sustain 2500 filled with 8lb braid and 16lb leader.
Hey ALLEY
So is it still winter or has it become summer for you??? Nice fish...

Top effort. Gee it would have been an awesome fight on the light gear. I also use the same rod and love it, especially when you get a quality fish hooked up.
I live and fish on the goldcoast but have been keen to drag the boat up and have a crack on the bay. Any tips on where I should launch from and head to?

Hi benno, it was about 24feet deep, and even though it was midweek there ended up being up to 10 boats in the area, some people are so rude!, i like to think people who fish are decent blokes but you can be casting and somebody will motor in 10 metres away or come all the way from the mouth of the river headed for moreton and instead of just going a touch wide they will cut right through where people are fishing, and then wave like your thier best mate!!!!, little bit of thought for others goes a long way doesnt it.:-*

Nice going AC. It's comforting to see some good reports coming from the bay and surrounding areas once again. Has been slim pickings for a while now. Looking forward to trying my new rod and reel outfit out there real soon.

Nice PB Snapper Alleycat.
Going by your winter reports i can imagine you must be thrilled to finally hook a big fish during the winter months.
You did well to land it on 8lb gear.
The big snapper are just to good to catch just once.
Cheers Brent

Hey mate,
Great fish just wondering what jighead you were using?
Well done mate that still makes a day even if you don't land any other fish
Great fish Alleycat,
Been fishing the river lately and caught some good squire - due to mud shutdown. Went out on Monday after the rain and forgot to put the flares back in the boat. Mud was beckoning but had to stay in the river and could only manage some small ones. The rain has flushed them out inot the bay for sure.
