Well last night headed to my secret spot which prior to the rain had being absoloutely going off got there about 9:00pm and third cast scored a nice little flatty 41cm but the next 45 minutes was pretty slow with only 1 throwback (an undersize flatty) was starting to think the spot might have gone off a bit by this time as it was the longest i had fished there for such a little result but soon after the flatty came on the bite lots of hookups but no quality size most being between 30-35 mark with a couple of 37cm thrown in for good measure, current was running very strong with all the excess water being around so had to go a bit heavier on the lead to 1/6th to get it down there as flathead was obviously what i was chasing, found that the best retrieve last night was a very slow retrieve with the odd twitch thrown in. Then all of a sudden i felt the slightest of touches i jerk the rod and "yes" i'm on zzzzzzzzzwent the drag i thought "at last a decent flatty" but then it wasn't running like a flatty so i had no idea what it was after a couple of minutes working it i catch a glimpse and it was JEWFISH :o then it darted off this happened 3 times before it was ready to come in and i landed my first every jew;D , it was only 44cm not big but a jew nonetheless and it was great fun on 2 pound line fished the next hour or so thinking there might be more but couldn't.
I left for home at 12:00 and was more then stoked at my first jew on plastics result, sorry there is no pics didn't have the camera with me and all fish were released but geez it felt good i just had to tell somebody;D

Good on ya, 44cm is better then nothing and to catch it on SP's has to be even better!
Cheers, Mick.

What! Only 44cm! That beats my PB for jew by.................44cm!
Great job. Just be happy you've actually caught one of the silver beasts.
My son (also jewless) had a decent jew on at Ormiston about 5 weeks ago. Just when we thought it had given up the fight and was ready for the net it gave one last run, wrapped the line around the outboard and 'ping' it was gone. We guessed it was around a 5 - 7kg fish.
We'll get him (or her) next time!

Yeah Pete don't worry mate i'm pretty stoked to have just caught one on sp's, gee bad luck on your sons effort similar thing happened to me once using yabbies in the middle of the day for flathead and bream and out of nowhere this jew hit it and was off got it right up to the bottom of the rockall after about 20 mins on 6lb line and of course i don't have a net and while i was scampering down the wall he got under a rock in the water and ping gooooonnnneeee. he was around the 100cm mark but wouldn't have a clue how heavy that is. Two guys came past in a boat while i was fighting him and sat there and watched the whole thing, (they didn't have a net either) but said how exciting it was to watch someone who was onto a fish like that. Even now i wonder just how heavy that fish was, your sone will be the same hopefully he catches another one sooner then later so it's less time to ponder on what could have been
Cheers

Good story Bazz. My son hooked up on his Jew jigging a small bait of fresh squid while targeting squire. Scared the pants off him when it struck like a steam train and nearly tore the rod from his grasp. They certainly are mighty tough fighters!!
