Mornin all, the kids have just bought me a surf rod and reel and i just thought i would ask which line type is best for this type of fishin as i have only used my usual rod when beach fishin which is a lite set up usin braid and flouro leader.

Hi nibbler, welcome aboard.
I agree with tailortaker.
If night-fishing with large baits for large fish, I'd go to 20lb however.
Cheers.

8-15lb platypus platinum mono, 12lb is the most common line on my reels and you can catch everything from whiting to jew on it.

I agree with both nigelr and tailortaker. Have used platypus pre-test, platinum, schneider and a few other's and now only use Tortue in 10kg, I know it is a bit on the big side but I do fish a lot at night for the bigger tailor and I still get done over from time to time and think about going up to 15kg. That would make it a lot harder to cast so I have stick with the 10kg. For dart I like Platypus Super-100 in 10 lb it is thin as and will cast a mile and is strong enough for the big dart we get up at Fraser

I use 15 lb schneider on my heavy outfit, (considering upgrading to 20 lb platy classic). As reelchippy asked, what rod and reel are you using.

It sounds as though you have a mid weight combo, perhaps 12- 15 lb line will do the trick, try and buy something with a fine diametre ie platy platinum etc so you can feel the bites better and you won't have to use as much lead to hold the spot.

I agree with Johnny - 12lb platypus platinum. For the price you can't beat it. 12lb is enough for pretty well all species you'd want to target, casts well and is resistant to twisting. Perfect for whiting to jew, just up your trace if you're worried about being bitten off.
