it doesn't need anything, just every now & then give it a wash in a rag soaked in metho, it will come up lovely. don't clean it by sanding or with a scourer it is not necessary. some like to uses waxes. it is a bit of a personal thing, i like natural

Mine are all natural and when they get a bit grubby I just use a bit of windex to get the crud off.
PS they get a bit of a wash after every use when I give the rod a rubba-dub-dub in the tub after every use as well so it's not that often I need to use the windex. :)

A member on this or maybe another site told me that soon as you get the rod just rub down with candle wax.. enhances the grip and protects the cork. I have done it on a few rods and it works a treat.

Loophole, Try Bees Wax! You Can Buy It In A Small Plastic Jar. It Lasts For Ages. Just Rub It On By Hand And Then Melt It Down With A Candle To Smooth It Out. Let It Dry O/night And Give It Another Coat. Perfect.!

Don't leave the plastic on the grips.Mould tends to grow under it.

Au natural is best. Any wax or waterproofing compound changes the texture of the grip. I have tried waxes and they don't have the same feel as natural cork. I have natural cork grips that are 17 years old and still in very good nick
