Hi All

After spending the best part of the last 2 months experimenting/researching, the wife piped up and said i wasn't doing too well as we hadn't had a decent feed of late... She doesn't understand that these research trips must be undertaken! Nonetheless, a few decisions had to be made and i decided it was time to head back to basics for a while and produce some fresh fish for the family!

So, with GW in like flynn, we headed out to a favourite spot last night with conditions favourable - in fact too bloody good! We anchored up about 5.30ish and set burley trail out the back while setting out the lines. It wasn't long before GW had a 36cm Snap in the boat, which he duly returned as we were expecting bigger and better things... Well, it didn't quite eventuate that way with the tiddlers annoying us for the best part of the next 2 hours. GW did manage to score a 43cm and an equal PB of 54cm while i chimed in with another at 43cm. At 8.30pm, everything went dead :-/ and we stuck it out till after the turn at 11.30pm before deciding it was a foregone conclusion that no more fish would be added to the tally... It was very glassy with max 5knots throughout the evening - too calm in my opinion as a 10-15kn NE breeze seems more productive for this particular spot.

We still had a great time and a good laugh along the way and told a few stories and bagged a few people ;) and it beat sitting at home twiddling the thumbs! Thanks Pete and congrats on the equalisation of the PB...

PS I'll put a pic up later when i get a chance to download...

Hi Darryl

No doubt about that! Yep, all clear although after this rough stuff over the next week, that should all change! I have decided to put the placcies (& sunnies) away for the next 2 months :o and go back to bait fishing at night till the water murks up a bit... There's still fish being caught on placcies but the quantity over the past 2 or so months has definitely been on bait.

I thought I felt someone "walking on my grave":P

You Shoulda gorne to Mud mate!! (and tried that special mark you have). That spot (U fished last nite) definately fishes better in NE'lys with anything from the west destroying your position.

Glad to see you out and about anyway and hopefully on the way to busting the personal drought you have been experiencing of late. (I'm still in mine - havent been out for a month -cant get out for another month)

Cheers,

Adam

Always good to have a fish with you T :D I was hoping for a bigger PB but given the fact conditions were a bit to calm a good result.

Lucky we did bag out, LOL even if only on some of our fellow AF members expense ;D At times it felt like a couple of school girls going through a Dolly magazine in the back of the bus :P but hey we had to pass the time some how in the quiet spells ;)

I don't know about this C & R business I guess if it was good enough for Webby it was good enough for me. Except the fish I threw back would have been the size of the bait he would have used for the Jew :o Webby- I may be on the turn and before you start the hugging like Koalas comment T1 I meant going back to bait from SP's ::)

The water was so clear we could see the fish swimming up to the bait and see them changing their minds ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for putting up with me T1 we will have to try the other couple of spots we mentioned sooooooon :-X

Hey and put the GW equal PB photo up it may just keep me going until next trip :)

Taking Herm out for a SP's flick tomorrow but not too early we need to take the kids to kindy ;) May even get some new marks :-X

Well that's still a great result there guys. At the moment I'd be happy to haul in a fish around the 54cm mark. Nothing I can do but wait for the opportunity to get out there again seeing as the tinny is still out of action while they rebush the propeller. Won't get it back until next Wednesday at the earliest. Well done on the feed fellas.

I can only wonder ...... When did the comedy relief start, around 8.30pm??::) Don't you blokes know that snaps are sensitive to human noises including bagging people??

At least there was a feed for tonight T, I thought GW had told me they were the fish he alone caught, but that was the total between you??? What's going on???;D ;D

At least you guys made the effort and rewarded by a good night it seems.

Well done!

T1 and GW that it is a fair reult for a quiet night. Although I don't know about this switching back to bait stuff - sounds traitorous to me. I suppose if it is used purely as a night time tactic we can forgive you guys. Bay fishing has been a bit quiet of late but the river has been firing on SP's.

well done Pete.

I have a question...when the fishing gets quiet a plastics person reverts to bait..a bait fisho does not revert to plactics....so does that not show which is the better???

Adam, that special mark will be visited when i'm in my boat and the deckie has been strip-searched for a GPS... Don't want to abuse the privillege!

Ok, just to clarify, i use bait & SP's depending on what i want to do/target at the time - both to me are a means...

I can't begin to recall the amount of times i've been fishing bait for very little then turned to SP's only to end up with a good feed for the session! Both are useful and it so happens that my PB Snap fell to fillet de mullay! If i want to be lazy, i'll set-up anchor and use bait - if i'm active, i'll drift and use SP's - i enjoy BOTH nonetheless. So to answer your Q Greg, yes, i revert both ways (this of course only applies to fishing ;) )...

Pete, mate, you know it's always a pleasure and yes, we will try those few spots we talked about very very soon!

Brian, at least we were out there - our 'heartlidges' were in tact :P ! And yes, i think the 'baggings' started at about 8.30ish:P ...

Hey T that fish looks like a 35 cm ;D comments from Herm. So here is one cleaned and ready to go in the oven whole :) I think I need a smaller set of hands or a bigger Fish ::)
