hello everyone,
after arrivin home at about 9 this mornin i decided to christen my boat in saltwater for the first time. wen we got the the boat ramp there and there was about 20 dead snapper all around the baot ramp. because my outboard motor didnt start this mornin i had to use my 40lb minnkota electric hand throttle to move around in which took forever but as we were driving we saw a few fishy lookin pontoons so me and my mate sam decided to have a flick and after two casts sam said "can you cast it under there for me" and i was like okay and i did and i said watch ur line , haha he should of listened because after i said that his drag was screamin and he didnt have time to rip the big bream that unfortunatly busted him off. ohh yeah by the way i was using a strike pro rack popper with tiemco barbless trebles and sam was using a 3 ich berkley bass with a 1/16oz nitro head and after i casted my popper under the next jetty the water erupted of about 6 to 7 bream all after my popper and after about 12 hits i finally hooked one it went 24cm hahah only a baby. and after about 20 jettys up and alot of missed fish sam finally hooked his landed his first bream on lure it went 19cm on an atomic prong in natural colour and i 1/6oz tt head. after another about 15 jetties i still couldnt connect to bring cause they would never get hooked>:( . but after that i decided to pack it in and head home. end up tally was two bream mine went 24cm and sams went 19cm and i had about 1 million strikes hahah but no hook ups. i gear i opted for was a shimano twinpower 1000 with 4lb trout pe and 4lb seagur flourocarbon and a major craft slicer rod while sam was usin one of my old crappy rods with 10lb mono and 6lb seagur leader.hope you enjoy;D

oh and with the prongs, try this...

rig em up with a size 1 or 1/0 mustad aberdeen hook, no weights in em, cast them out and retrieve it across the surface (keep ur rod tip high) and as the bream chase or start to nip at it, let it drop back down and they usually suck it down and then strike...

works for me every time

hey mad max,
well i work extremely hard to get all my gear and my parents pay for nothing when it comes to fishing which isnt that bad. it also helps wen u work at a fishin shop and get good discounts;D . that method with the atomic prong is a great way isnt it . i have had so much fun over the last 6 months using ecogrear or atomic tails on the surface with a worm hook, very exciting stuff

Where were you fishing mate? Kawana again? They're frustrating buggers sometimes, such tough mouths. Better luck next time.

You can never have to much tackle.... correct, but you can have to much hair;D
LOL. You know your stuff when it comes to bream, i was at Noosa river on Sunday and i could clearly see heaps of bream, but they would not touch my plastics, i was using a 1/16th head and 3 inch powerbaits.

Have you ever tried the plaza at maroochydore? I wanna give that a go once I get my yak. I work across the road from there and everytime I walk through I can't help but have a look. Imagine the frenzy you could create with $3 of chips from the fish shop!.

Hey imnotroginal

Yeh there are heaps of hungry bream at the plaza, its very tempting to fish there even though u cant fish there i think. I would look abit silly to bring a rod n reel to the plaza to go fishing though, lol.

Just out of curiosity, r u allowed to fish at the plaza or around the edge of the plaza in that creek?

I can't think of anything to stop you fishing from a kayak in the river, but I would never fish from their boardwalk, too easy to end up hooking someone. I tried fishing from their banks early one morning, but only the smaller bream were active at that hour, the bigger fish seem to become active towards lunchtime, when there's more stuff falling in the water for them. I also noticed that all the baitfish have a habit of sitting right on the edge of the shade created by the 2nd bridge. Has anyone successfully fished there?

There's a really small no fishing sign on the bridge across to the food court. That place sure holds a lot of bream. I've thought about putting a small handline in my wifes hand bag but she won't play the game. I guess you'd get some looks as you were pulling a fish out while people were munching on their chippies.
Some of those bream are BIG as well. I've caught a lot at the mouth of that creek...they taste like doughnut's and chips....hmmmm.

No plastics? What about squidgy bug style? I love watching them follow the fluttering tail, slowly stalking it before they take a big slap at it! Let me know next time you're bored!
