Left Scarbourough in "Fishinrocks" boat 5am this morning. The plan was to hit some of the shallow reefs around the cape in pursuit of some snaps. Rounded combyuro point and it was a washing machine. Decided to give western rocks a go, to no avail. The decision was made to head back to Curtin where I got a few snaps last week. After about 1/2hr or so of nothing but small squire my light plastics outfit got slammed, and I mean slammed. The hooked fish started off slow but quickly built up steam to the point where we had to give chase. I was calling it for a big nobby. How wrong was I. About 20 minutes later and after a few tense moments when I thought for sure I was going to loose it to a wreck we saw colour. Still along way down but it looked snapperish. Second time we got colour it was called for a kingie. But then we got a good look a a bloody big golden trevally. After the initial disappointment of it not being a snapper, it started to sink in how big the fish was. It pulled the scales down at 12.68kg and went 110cm long. Not a bad result for 10lb line with a 12lb leader on a 2500 stradic, 1/4 3/0 jig head a 4" swiming mullet gulp. Managed a nice 50cm cod on the way home but that was it. It is still bloody quiet out there.
Foggy
Yeah FOGGY, i really really really feel sorry for ya! Man, tears streaming down both cheeks :'( ! Don't know what to more to say? I'd give up if i was you and not go fishing for a while - especially when you ONLY get a 110cm 12kg fish! I know it's not quite as good as my S/Mack on similiar gear, but hey... them's the brakes!
BLOODY HELL fella:o ! That is AWESOME indeed!!!! I bet the heart was pumping like crazy and aint it a great feeling (as you well know already)!!!
Take Care and hopefully i'll have something worth reporting this weekend ;) ...

I was out there yesterday also Foggy. We went out to the cape and ended up with one snap, if you got through the choppy stuff the conditions improved the further you travelled. We were in the boat (blue stacer easyrider) that the DPI came over to after you. They said the previous boat they had checked had a big golden so I'm assuming it was you. We ended up trying to chase a couple of tuna schools busting up around curtain.

Nice fish on 10lb Graham. Those Goldies certainly know how to pull the kinks out of your gear. They are probably the best trevs on the table in my opinion

Where do you start , Foggy that fish on 10 bl is awsome. Mate that thing would have pulled the A#@$ out of a snapper. I've caught goldens before and they pull a dam lot harder than any thing else i've caught. You would have covered a bit of ground running him down on that gear.ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.

MATE,
If anyone could possibly relate to that as much as me,
maybe 3 weeks ago, headed over to curtain in hope of some snapper, current dropped off, floating line out the back with a pillie on started to scream. 40 minutes later and after some chasing, same species except our pulled the scales down to 15.8 something kg'ers.
Mate they are an awesome fish, tasted absolutley great.
We only got that and 1 snapp but we were over the moon with the trev.
Super great effort, well done. Deserve all 12.68kg of it mate :D
I told you the golden trav hang out at curtain. Nice fish bro, very nice. Steve will be extremely jealous, hi record there is 10.4 kg

On 10lb it is my biggest yes, but the 17kg jew on 12lb is still my biggest on light line and plastics. I still want that 10kg+ nobby on 10lb but so I will have to keep trying.

:'( :'( :'( Yeah it's been a while since i've had some ZZZZZZZZZZ that ended up in the boat... The difference between this year & last year? The midweek fishing trips as opposed to weekends at the moment...
