View Full Version : advice for high speed spinning line needed.
Ok, matched my tss4 up with a sweet graphite Daiwa 7ft Grandwave 12-30lb spin rod, but I cant make my mind up as to spool up with either braid or mono.
Im going to spend the extra dollars and get the best line I can get. Will be using line around the 15 - 20Lb breaking strain mark.
Im leaning towards braid for the pure reason of extra casting distance due to decreased line diameter as compared to the mono.
Any input as to why or why not braid or mono should/shouldn't be used? would be appreciated from any others using similar setups. TIA ;D

I have been using braid for the last two seasons for the Macs and Tuna. It casts better and sinks a slug faster but occasionally wind knots and I have pulled the hooks on some better fish. I will probably go back to 12 or 15lb mono this season for ease of use.

on a tss4 go a good mono they lay braid very badly (am using platypus low stretch at the moment.. seems ok). otherwise I would recomend braid for most modern style reels.
Hawk tournament 10kg mono on mine is 3 seasons old and doesn't need topshotting yet.
I find braid just punishes your casting fingers when the action is on. Maybe I'm just a poof too?;D

For the fish you'll be chasing 6kg is probably enough! just set you drag on the scales to 2kg. I've run 6 kg on my spin rod for years with no issues i also keep this rod on the boat while chasing marlin and use it to cast livies at billies that are away from the boat, if 6 kg can do this it's all you'll need for spotties and macs. the 6kg also gives you much better casting, without using braid ( bad idea imho)

we have 2 tss4's one spooled with braid and the other with monno-braid casts better and ive had no probs with line lay or wind knots-so ill go against the grain and say braid, we have fireline on ours i think-not 100% sure

i used braid last season on the tuna and macs and found it casts better and i could use smaller slugs, so i would say use braid

BEN, LOL;D ;D
Theres a whole lot of one liners like that about Chuck Norris too!!!!
Chuck Norris doesn't do push ups...he pushes the earth down
Guns dont kill people...chuck norris kills people
There is no theory of evolution....just a series of animal chuck norris allows to live.
and so on.
Back to the post.... I haven't had any trouble with braid....I love the feel of a tuna hitting a chromey flat out with braid. The stretch of mono takes away a little bit of fun!!!

tss4s arnt famous for thier braid laying capacities, however plenty of ppl seem to be doin it. If u go mono id recomend lo-stretch or pink and if using braid, run a decent length leader between ur braid and the slug to prevent too many pulled hooks
hmmm...so it about 50/50 so far...THANKS....lol :P ;D
I found a spool of 10lb braid in the shed, so Ill wack that on and see how it goes.
Thanks for the replys fellas.
