Spent last weekend at Fingal Head and having never caught tailor was hoping they would be on, although the general report there seemed to indicate they were on the quiet side. Caught 3 bream Saturday morning, 3 in the afternoon and Saturday night went to the river only thinking of catching bream, but there was nothing happening, which I thought might be due to the very strong current from the large tides on full moon.
Hubby gets hungry (as usual) and goes back to the park to fill the hole, so asked him to bring my tea to me. There was still nothing happening and the bream are usually OK there so I'm thinking I should have gone back to the park with hubby and save him having to bring my tea back to me.
Decided it was a waste of prawns throwing them into the water only to have the current rip them off the hook. So I sit down and a guy turns up to fish and I'm thinking what a waste of bait it will be for him to throw his bait in and minutes after he throws his 2 lines in one goes off followed by the other a few seconds later. I wind in the second one for him and we have 2 tailor. So I frantically change my line to a gang hook rig and pillies and get 3 hits and 3 fish. Then it goes quiet and they are gone. Although very satisfied I got some tailor, couldn't help wondering how many I may have caught if I had thrown pillies in from the start! Ugh! Next time I'll have a line each way.
They weren't huge but at 35, 37 & 38 cm were better than the 30cm ones I was told were caught on the surf beach.
6 bream Sunday arvo late and a couple the next morning and I was pretty happy with the results even though the bream could have been bigger, it will feed me for a while.
Since I am meant to have fish every day for an overactive thyroid, sounds like a good excuse to go fishing again as soon as able, which is never frequent enough since I live near Toowoomba.
Good weekend, lovely mild weather, and nice quiet area.
