If you don't have a a huge spending budget, or want to have a huge spending budget, they're ok. In comparison though, to other mid-market and for pricing, there's far better quality but it depends what type of rod you're looking at purchasing.

Mate I have two Abu reels and I love them but I havnt had any experience with the rods sorry. If their as good as the reels they'll be fine.\

Any rod is fine if your only catching ligh stuff. If your going to redline it then I wouldn't be to keen on it.

Remember a rod can only handle what drag pull the reel is capable of. So if you got a cheap reel that only pulls 3kg then a cheap 10kg rod from k-mart is fine.

The top abu rods look like decent rods though. I wouldn't be unhappy using one.

I personally have had lots of problems with their reels. I have previously had 3 of them bugger up on me. 3 seperate problems too. eg. wont free spool when you press the button, level wind crapped itself on 2 of my reels,i have had teeth snapped off the wind gear, and the drag washers are sub par IMO. for the price you pay for them your better off chucking in an extra $30 and buy a shimano or diawa, okuma etc

Yeah thats very interesting about the prob's with the reel's... Ive got 2 abu reel's in the 20 and 40 size's.. yeah they were cheap and to tell you the truth I only bought them coz they came with an extra spool so I can change to a stronger line if conditions suit, They have done a great job so far but your reply makes me cautios.
Cheers flex!!!

Yeah TT I have 2 of em as well.... Check out Flex's reply to this thread and see what ya rekon. The 2 I have are used only for light stuff (mainly bream) and have done a good job so far, as I said to flex, I got them coz they came with an extra spool so I can have a different strength line on the spare if need be.... it has come in handy too.

Yer mine are 6600 overhead baitcasters, They perform quite good. I've had no experiences with the abu spinning reels. Everyone that I've spoken to that owns abu baitcasters have had no dramas but I guess there's always bound to be issues with some. I will also add that mine are'nt real old so time will tell. Maybe in time I will be saying the same but lets hope not. I'll enjoy them while they last hey.

Yeah TT,,, my Abu spinning reels are very new too ( say about 3 months max ) and always get a fresh water dunking after use. Theyve worked a treat pulling stack's of bream out of the broadwater on the goldie, my biggest to date is 35 cm with most averaging around 24-26 cm or so. the big ones put up a good struggle too but they got nothing on the good old tailor's.

I should mention my brother had a 6500c4 abu. After 2 weeks fishing his level wind wore out aswell..lol also even out of the box the drag is a little sticky(which leads to breakages)

I used to be a huge abu fan. I owned 2x 6500, 2x7000 and a 10000.
They are ok reels if you only fish occasionally and use relatively light gear. But I ran 25lb on my 6500 and 35lb on my 7000 and all but 1 reel had serious problems when I did some shallow reef fishing a few years back. All reels were less than 18months old.

And theres nothing worse than being on a 2 week long trip and have your reels blow up on you.

I migrated to shimano and they are a million times better IMO for not much more of an investment

to replace my 6500 i now use a calcutta.
I own a charter special and tekota 600 to replace my 7000
and a tyrnos 30 to replace my 10000.

All reels weren't "that" much more expensive. And after 3 weeks of hardcore reef fishing over xmas they didn;t miss a beat

If you had the rods in question in your hand and they felt like you liked them and the price suited you then get it !!!.Don't buy a rod that you havn't felt!.
I reacon ABU ambassador reels are way under rated and I think if you look after them (service) which I don't ,they should last forever.
