hi, i own a "92' toyota four runner v6 which is in good nic with low klms.
Recently noticed that when the oil filler cap is removed at idle the engines rpms die and eventually stalls. Dont think this should happen. Any ideas why?
cheers...

Hi FF, I be thinking if you remove any Vacum hose from your engine the engine will run pretty rough. eg remove ignition advance hose and the engine will idle slower maybe even stop.

So by removing the oil filler cap whille running, what you have effectively done is remove all your crank case vaccum devices all at once. (simply by making a big hole in your vaccum system)
So none of those devices will work at all then, probably causing the rough running condition.

Just to back up what roughas is saying.

I know some of the older ford engines the motor needs to be completely sealed or the motor will run off or even stall even to the point of larger type oil leaks made them run rough.
There is a name for this type of motor but it eludes me at this stage.

so if your toyo v6 is one of these motors it will stall if the cap is removed.
