Recently I purchased a quality combo, Egrell s10H and Diawa tierra 4000. Now I want to put some braid on the reel, 300yds (15-20lb, not too sure yet), for chasing LT's with SP's.

Any ideas what brands I should be looking at, and more importantly, what braid I should avoid at all costs;).

Thanks for your help

finns is a bit more expensive than others, personally i like fireline but its the old war shimano v daiwa, ford v holden..... i dont use anything else but fireline and wont, and seeing as they have a new braid coming out i dont think ill change anytime soon, oh by the way the new stuff is calle stren microfuse, claims to stronger thinner and smoother than fireline, fluro blue in sunlight clear in water

I like Tuf Line braid. It is softer, more flexible and reasonably priced.

Get some yamatoyo PE braid if ya can afford it. I have it on my baitcasters and love it. But yeah it does cost and I dont think it comes in a 300yd spool.

Hi,

Quality combo indeed. I would go for power pro lines. The best value for money there is.

I use and heartily recommend Avanti Sea Bass ( comes in 12 and 16 lb) and it has great strength and lays very well on reel.

I buy mine at Jones Tackle at Lutwyche,Brisbane. I say this as I haven't seen it anywhere else when I check the northside tackle shops.

i wouldnt use fusion line at that breaking strain, they are better designed for lighter classes. def go with a 'true' braid, it is a pain at low Breaking Strains as it is too thin but once it gets a bit of dia. to it it will cast better....my 2cents. Sean

As you stated yourself, not a bad combo. Dont let it down by using the wrong braid. I use crystal fireline 2lb for breamin' but wouldn't touch the stuff on a heavier outfit. Its way too stiff as you get heavier than about 10lb and the breaking strains are out by miles.

I have been using yamatoyo for a while and its legendary. Makes all the difference. Good line is equally important to a good rod and reel.

Another line I'm trying is the sunline castaway. Even thinner than yamatoyo (which is a lot thinner than fireline) . It contains PET (the stuff from plastic ) bottles so it dosn't have the same memory. So far so good

Tetsuo has hit the nail on the head. I would stear clear of fireline in that weight range. Best way to buy braid I reakon is go down to the shop and see what it feels like between your fingers. So, have you made up your mind?
