I recently purchased a new boat and am interested to find out what you recommend for an initial set up for estuary & blue water fishing.
Any comm4ens about rods, reels or tackle would be greatly appreciated.

Are you just getting into fishing? Also what area are you in?
If you are just starting out, start off slowly until you get a feel for exactly what types of fishing you enjoy and then you have a better idea of what type of tackle you need - unless you have lots of money and don't mind spending it.
For offshore, something like a Shimano baitrunner 4500 is a good start. One of the best snapper reels and it is prime snapper season in SEQ now and for the next 3 months or so. Match it to a 7-8 ft rod and put some 10 kg mono or 30 lb braid on it and you are in business.
For estuary, it is coming into flathead season and it is alot of fun and successful way to catch them with soft plastic lures. You want a 2500 size spinning reel and a 6-7 ft 2-4 kg rod, and either some 4 kg mono or 6 lb braid. A few packs of Berkley or Gulp SPs and you are in business.
Hope this helps. More specific info from you on what and where will help get you more specific info.

Hey Fellas,
Thanks for the replies. Cheers Jeremy for those tips. Finga I am picking the boat up which is a Mustang 1750 Tournament with a honda 90hp on the 4th August. I have done plenty of fishing. Just starting to get serious about it since the boat purchase and want to start properly with the new hobby.
Have you gents heard of a brand of Rod and reels called Maestro that are promoted by a business in Brisbane called Keybiz. Apparently a pro Ian Mundy uses them.
Cheers

Ah getting yourself a boat eh James....Bet you cant wait..??...I always reccomend the Penn 114/ or 113 H for Offshore work ...they are cheap and bullet proof...Also The Shimano Tyrnos 30 are a great reel and they have come way down in price now...
Cheers Mick
