Help Help Help I am currently looking to buy a new boat and am looking at the Brooker 450 with a Mercury 40 2 stoke and the Blue Fin 4.2 with a Mercury 4 stroke 40. I know nothing about boats and need advice on which one to go with. Any clues out there please????

Mate I've just bought a Brooker 4.5 with a 40 4 stroke yamaha.
Not here yet but it was nicer on the pocket than the rest.Paid 12500 with all rego's.Mates have these boats and they are rough with them and still no dramas.

I am an ex Polycraft owner and if I was going back to a small tiller steer, a poly would be on my list to consider.
Motors, well 4 stroke are great on fuel, good for trolling and easy starting but heavier and cost more. They also dont like sand when in shallow water.
2 stroke lighter, cheaper to purchase and service but chew more fuel and smell.

I'd go the Brooker, bigger and possibly cheaper all up, but then I would use it inshore, rather than in a river.
Personally I'd prefer a lighter motor on the 4.2m, I have a 30 2 stroke which is fine, cheap as to run also.
What usage do you do most, river or bay/ocean?
Cheers.

another one to consider is the allycraft 445 sioux. i have one with a 40 2 stroke and its good. much bigger than the brooker and bluefin and the 40 yammy is quite economical at around 45kms out of a 24l tank. all up i paid 12500 with sounder nav lights radio etc:)

The 4.55 Polycraft will ride much better than any tinnie, but will require more HP to run properly. It also has the advantage of being a much quieter hull, and also no corrosion ever. Have a look on www.polyboatowners.com (http://www.polyboatowners.com) for more info.

All i can say is contact Australian Boat Building Services (ABBS) on the Gold Coast as i did and you will get a boat to suit your needs as they custom build. I am over the moon with my boat they built and stoked with my 2 stroke 2006 Mercury, dont worry about the 4-stroke.

if it was my pick i would go the Blue fin, great boat, only as i have been in one, as for the brooker i have not been in one and i aint knockn them, take them both for a run, after all its your hard yaka $$$$
as for the utter crap that a poly rides better than a alloy boat, take the test urself::)

Hey Clarky,
I've just finnished doing the research that your talking about and the best Tinnie that you can customise from the factory is Bluefin. They are also highly recomended by boaters in Nth Qld. Next would be Seajay and quintrex. I went with a boat builder in Ayr Nth Qld. He builds a 4.3 and up. PM me if you want his details.

Dont forget the Clark abalone...he he. Good advice above IMHO, generally speaking the longer the boat the better it will be on the water.

i own a bluefin 4.2 mangrove jack with a 40hp yammy 2 stroke. I bought the lot new in 2003 and i am very happy with it, good for 51 km/hr on smooth water and very stable at rest. Also great build quality and attention to detail.

Gotta love how on these forums when someone asks a specific question he gets a thousand posts that are completely unhelpful and often confuse an already confusing situation.
Clarkyy: Out of the two boats you asked about I would go the 4.5 Brooker as there is no substitute for waterline length when it comes to performance.

Clarkyy, go the Brooker. Bigger is always better. I have a Brooker 4.1 safari with 30 yammy and am extremely pleased with it. Build quality and ride are very good. If you can, go the safari model with full floor and pedestal seats and also if funds permit, add side decks( these make any boat more comfortable to sit on, provide room to mount electronics and make the boat much stronger). Cheers Winston.

No decision Booker would have been my choice out of that lot.
Looks like the "Black anchors" must be doing something right. Merc/Mariner still seem to still be a popular brand going by this post.

I have a merc 115 efi 2006 on the full boar and its a great fuel efficient motor.
My next motor will either be a merc verado or optimax.
They are good reliable motors. :P
