Hey guys,
Troy (Blue_mako) and I fished Stradbroke Island for the first time over the last few days.
The Weather was shocking but we were eventually rewarded with some decent land based fish. We were staying in amity point and caught a School Mackeral each on our first time slugging, it was great as we weren't really expecting much. That was the first day and the rest of the trip was ruined by bad weather including heavy winds and rain. This didn't stop us fishing however, it just altered our results! For the next few days we caught loads of pike, a few bream, solo grassy and a big dirty stingray(only thing caught on bait, live pike).
This brings me to the last day where we had a great time catching 3 different species of Trevally including Big Eyes, Goldens and 1 nice Diamond Trevally. Also caught 3 squire and 1 nice breambo. Most of the fish were caught on 3" Berkley power minnows with 1/8th- 3/8th TT and Decoy Jigheads to a leader of 6-10lb(different brands) to 4 and 6lb fireline. Troy was using his G.Loomis Dropshot and I was using my Gl2. Reels were Sols and symetres. The trevs were caught around Dunwich.
Simple Retrieve of casting to a likely looking spot and waiting for the sp to hit the bottom, once it hits the bottom , 2 quick snaps of the wrist then wait for sp to hit the bottom again, leave it on the bottom for 5 seconds then repeat.
The end tally was:
4 Golden Trevally
6 Big eyes
1 Diamond Trevally
1 Bream(31cm FL)
1 Flattie (45cm)
The mackeral were on the 1st day and the trevally on the last as the weather inbetween was really really bad.
Cheers
Tim
