Hello everyone,
i thought i should put this report in to show anyone that you can catch bream in just about any sort of weather. today me and my mate David trekked out at 6.00 this mornin in search of an early mornin travally or queenfish at the mouth at currimundi lake, we were supprised that we only got one queenie till bout 7.30, then we dicided to catch the bus to kawana.

Upon arrival we were nearly struck down by the gale force winds, well they were just about but like a true aussie we ventured on and the first cast with a gulp sandworm a very nice whiting of 36cm to my mate David after a few more poontons a nice bream of 29cm ate a 3inch gulp minnow in smelt colour on a tt hidden weight. Eventually we got even more rewarded for our percistance after about a kilometre of walkin the canals david ended up catching two flathead est about 30cm and 55cm and three nice bream while i caught 7 bream to 33cm and two flathead size unmentionable, actually both were about 25cm :o haha.most of the bream were caught on 3 ich berkley gulp and bass minnows in prl blu shad and smelt with tt hidden weight, gulp sanworms on hidden weights and strike pro poppers.

So if anyone gets a chance to go breamin, GO!!!! for it even if the weather is bad you should be rewarded have a good holidays everyone.
Cheers

Great report mate, those strong westerlies suck aye! Nice fish 8-)
I'd like to try for bream with poppers, how do you work them, just a slow retrieve with little bloops and pauses or what? Which size is best?

Thanks,

Tim.

Great catch lads! Ah school holidays - brings back memories of flicking baits around Ballina or South West Rocks/Kepmsey.

i dont need a haircut, but yeah any popper under 45ml should do it and cast exactly beside boats and poontons but make sure you keep it contastantly moving with little bloops and tiny pauses and when a bream follows move it moore vigourasley and then completely stop and thats my method of catching bream on surace, the lures thatt have been workin for me are towadis, river to sea bubble pop45 and strike pro poppers hope this helps cheers evryone
