gees 25% off, might almost make it the normal price at our local, where the guy might even know and care who you are and if you come back!

I got a new rod, with the discount, it made it about $10 cheaper than my local tackle shop. Not a big difference but I reckon their effort at offering the discount should be rewarded.

OK, so it was $10 cheaper after 25% off, it must have been way over priced before, if you went to your local a bit more, he would give you 10% discount anyway (mine does) plus if you belong to a local fishing club it may be more off, and he knows what he is talking about.

OH and you reckon they should be rewarded? for what? being more expensive than everyone else for the other 51 weeks of the year, for giving really bad customer service, for making you wait in a line at the checkout, just what exactly do you reckon we should reward them for? maybe we should give all the big Supermarket chains a Government funded cash bonus, because they have caused to closure of the "corner store" the finish of the door to door baker, milkman, Butcher , and who knows what else, yep reward them, that's what we should do.

AAHH that feels good, have not had a good whinge for a few weeks now, I can have a good weekend now I have let off all the built up steam.
Noelms, 100% right, support your local as a regular and they will look after you, the K Mart profit goes to Wally's siting on a board on $million bonuses for sucking people in with a sale now and then.>:(
Supporting your locals keeps the money in the area.
Noelm, you are showing your age mentioning corner stores, the milkman and home deliveries, at least using a local you can actually talk to someone about fishing tackle.;D
I do go to my local tackleshop and buy plenty of stuff from there, maybe 90% of my gear I get from my local. Only reason I went to K-mart was coz my local didnt have a pair of waders that would fit me, Kmart did and the 25% off was a bonus, so I thought I might post this up so if anyone else was needing something, something there local possibly didnt have in stock, like in my case.
This was not intended to be a "shop at your local and support the little guys' type thread, but afew have decided to use it as one. I hope some others got a good deal on something they needed and Im glad you feel better now Noelm :-* :P ;D

yep, slept like a baby after all that built up pressure was gone (joking) I know what you are saying, and I have got some stuff from a Supermarket (but usually when it has the wrong price on it) I just reckon that to go to a small operator, and get info for free, most reels spooled with line for free, plus the advantage that if something does go wrong, you can talk to the person that sold it to you and actually cares that you had some "drama" is worth more than a few dollars on some items, I go to my regulay guy now and for most stuff do not even "shop around" I know that his price will be as good as anywhere else.

very true mate, like when I got my spinning reel loaded with 50 pound breaking strain braid for £8
going off topic a bit but it happens with other shops as they actually value you as a customer and not a statistic, my local guitar shop, knock off £30 from the price of their guitars for me, and throw in free straps, leads or bags, or any combination of the three, sometimes all three :D so in my experience it can work out cheaper to shop at your local store, even with the discounts at the bigger stores

Thanks for the heads up ashh, its appreciated.
Noelm, I can definately identify with what your saying. Truth is, there's always somwhere cheaper but the service and advise given at the local is most valuable.
I just bought a certate. I dont have a lot of money and could have saved by buying online, however I decided to buy local because of the afore mentioned reasons. I also get a free service and have no regrets.

I quite often buy tackle from the chains, I dont go out of my too but if I'm there I will. I find that there cheaper on a lot of stuff. I'm not ashamed thats for sure. I always go to my local guy for bait and some of my tackle. If I'm after a rod or reel I will shop around to find the best price. These poeple are in bussiness and it's up to them to give poeple a reason to shop with them, there's no favours in bussiness just price point and sales..Oh and yes good advice from the local is a good point of sale but when you know what you want $$$ do the talking.
