Agree with dory, it completely depends on what you are fishing for and how you use the bait. on an overall basis squid is probably a bit better but woth have there pros and cons

Squid tends to stay on longer but some fish won't touch it...Prawns are good but they don't stay on the hook long...Plus it depends on the fish you are after.

Easy way to fix the prawns staying on the hook.
Shell all of your prawns and put them in a container/jar/bag and pour in about 1inch thick of salt.
Shake it up and leave for 24hours and you have strong prawns that are burleyed up.
I no for a fact that they work becos when Diver whiting fishing last time we had worms, normal prawns and salted prawns. The worms were catching most of the whiting and the normal prawns wont touched while the salted prawns caught 3 40cm+ bartailed flathead and some whiting.
This is a good way to fish prawns.
IMHO. I have to say fresh squid.
VERY VERY VERY easy to work with.

I voted squid, but dependes what where and when youre fishing.
I have been to a spot regularly where i catch heaps of tuskies on prawns and squid wasnt touched. And visa versa. Varies, one day prawns get them one day squid.

i would probably have to go with prawns as salted pilchards are not up there
salt them just the way u can salt prawns
makes them stay on for ages
Squid...stays on the hook better...

I vote squid because stays on the hook a lot longer.
you can catch a lot bigger fish on squid.
i throw squid head out for bronzies ive only caught 1 though.
but still depends what your going for
use both on the reef happy with both but happiest with cuttle-fish heads

I vote prawns, especially live, you will get almost any thing on a big live prawn like, Barra, king and blue salmon, mangrove jack, grunter, bream, cod, even the odd trevally

ANYTHING but bloody plastic or rubber baits.
Prawns, Squid, Fish, Octopus or shellfish (muscles oysters etc) JUST NOT PRETEND BAIT....

I would have to say squid as it will stay on the hook longer when the pickers are around, also alot cheaper than prawns that I am unable to catch myself in my state.
