Hi Mitch,
Mate I used top live in the eastern suburbs of Sydney and there are many options.
Around the little bays of Rushcutters,Parsley and the others on the eastern side dont expect to much other than bream, flathead, whiting and the odd trevally. You also get good squid in these areas.
Parsley bay can turn up the odd kingfish but landbased its hard to target them.
They tend to hang around the boat moorings and some king of structure.
Around the wharf there at parlsley Bay there are good leatherjackets and they are great for a feed.If you wanna brave the cold a small yellowtail or other livebait can also turn up the odd John Dory at night.
The better areas of the harbour (I believe) are the lane cove river and Middle Harbour.I spent heaps of time chasing BIG bream and Jewfish in Middle Harbour.
You can do this landbased and the area around Roseville Bridge is excellent for monster bream and jewfish.Soft plastics and bait will both do the job.
Hope this helps mate.

Thanks for the info Pete,
it'll be hard for me to get over the bridge seeming i dont have a car and im only fourteen but i'll definately give parsley bay a bit more of ago and come to think of it i saw a massive john dory just hanging around the school of yellowtail just bellow the wharf. What time should i go for squid at parsley and if i get one there is it worth chucking it out hoping for a big fish or would i be better taking it home for some dinner?
Thanks alot, Mitch.

The best time for squid is just on dark and into the night.
I always found the Pink yo-zuri squid jigs to be the best and in the smaller sizes in the harbour....Squid is a gun bait for both yellowtail kings and Jewfish.
If you are hanging around at night then yeah throw out a whole squid or a strip and see what happens.
Parsley isnt really known for big jew but hey ya never no mate.

plenty of blackfish off the wharf at rose bay (where the boat ramp is) you can usually get plenty of weed in the drain from the golf course across the road. Do plenty of research as to the techniques to use. Don't need to go out and buy specialist rod and reel, just use your floppiest rod and ant decent threadline reel will do.

Sean is spot on there too.
We also used to get good blackfish at Hermit Bay which is along from Rose Bay.

You can actually get the weed from the ocean rocks....Generally this stuff is longer and easier to put on your hook.
When I say weed I do mean the weed....Not the cabbage which also grows on the rocks.....The cabbage is great off the rocks though.
We used to get a bucket full of sand and chop the cabbage into the sand.
This was used as burley.
You then use the green weed as bait and we used long quill floats with just about 1cm of the float showing...(you must weight your float correctly).
Its great fun when the blackfish take your bait and you can watch you float go down about 30cm or so.....Then strike.
They fight hard in the clear water too.
