Afternoon all,

I own a 4.7m GRP centre console (Blackfin hull, 70hp evinrude).

Been reading all the threads with interest- i'm a relatively new boatowner who just cant help liking things "just so"- as a result have changed the entire fuel system, electrics, lights etc. Now it's onto the aesthetics and have been filling in the minor internal holes with 2 pack epoxy (Epifill) and have reached the transom where I want to remove the bracket for the auxillary motor (that I dont have) as it look awful. I've asked around and the general consenus is to fill the bolt holes (1/2") with the 2 pack marine epoxy as per the internal holes.

I would normally leap straight in but as it's the transom and heard lots of "rotted out" stories, I wanna make sure I do a proper job on any holes in this area.

Anyone got some input? I am not soooo worried about the final paitning etc. it's making sure no water gets into the transom that is No.1 on the concern list!

Cheers
Pom

Yes Pom the epoxy is the best easy cure and being a glue as much as a filler when it is so designed it does stick and last also. You can get the same end result with polyester but there is more work needed as it is not a glue in the same respect as epoxy.

Yes , a two part epoxy should do the job!!

Cut some 12mm dowel about 15mm short of the thickness of the transom bang them in covered in epoxy then fill the remaining voids with the rest of the epoxy, scrape the excess epoxy off just before she sets too hard.. sand when hard and flow coate or gelcoate to restore the finish

cheers

Cheers guys- I feel much better about filling the holes now- will be praying for some sunshine on the weekend!

Hey MM- quick pic of my boat- it's an old one when I first sea trialed the boat. I'll post up some new pics once I finish working on it, looks a bit different now - new windscreen, checker plate overhead locker, LED lights, carpet (soon!) etc.

I like the ride of the deep vee hull- bit wobbly at rest, but great for cutting through the chop, which is a plus when the sea breeze comes in a bit early!
