Inner City Ramp?

Hi guys,

I work down in the riverside precinct of the city. It's lucky my desk doesn't face the river end of the building, otherwise I'd be watching the river all day.

Today there was a helicopter landing on a large luxury boat steaming past the Kangaroo Pt cliffs....... but anyway..

When I do look out the river windows, I'm always thinking 1) how fishy the mangroves and little beaches look, and 2) how you don't see people fishing there.....

So this weekend I'm going to fish between the Story Bridge and the Kangaroo Pt cliffs. I've read some threads previously about people fishing at the Goodwill Bridge, off the bank (land based) and having good success. So hopefully all these things combine for some fun bream action !!!

Can anyone tell me where the best ramp would be to access the New Farm/City region.

mate there is a small boat ramp behind breekie creek, good luck there are some good bream to be caught

Its been a while but there used to be one at Ross St Newstead, just watch the end of the ramp at low tide. There is another opposite Whitworths near the rowing shed.

I googled brisbane boat ramps and this site reckons there are ramps at west end and kangaroo point.

I know of the one at the Orleigh, down at west end already. It is a good one as it is the ramp for the sailing club.

I can see one over near the story Bridge hotel from the windows in my building, however I don't know if it is public access or whether it comes out of private property, but if not west end will be OK.

Will go tomorrow so will post results.

I'm very keen to try out some new(different) methods.

One of the magazines has an article regarding bread fishing for bream - something we all did as kids, but probably haven't thought of in a long time since plastics and lures etc dominated the market. Also have read some articles on catching "Big" bream, with Big fresh baits, such as fish heads.

Will also try some plastics.

So looking forward to the experiments !

Don't know when that site was updated last Slyman but if the K Pt ramp was the one below cliffs where people rock climb it was closed off years ago, can still be used by canoeists but a fair way to carry your craft from the car park.
The West End ramp is just upstream from the railway bridge and was built so workers access the pylons of the Goodwill Bridge during it's construction. I don't think it was made to last and in fact I remember seeing a barricade accross it last time I looked, it may have been repaired since. I'd check first if I was you.
The Brizzy River really needs a few more boat ramps esp inner city & down stream northside (Pinkinba is a joke, a dangerious joke).
It makes it hard for boaties to justify this though if a gov web site is proclaiming nonexistant ramps are still there.

Hi M62,

If you travel about 800m furth up the river, at the bend in the river, across from the Toowoong ferry terminal, there is the sailing club ramps which I assume are in good order.

As you say though, it would be good to have something in between so you can access Tenneriffe/city etc.

The South Brisbane Sailing Club used to have a lock & chain across theirs a few years ago and it was made for carrying small sail boats into the water, too steep and no room for reversing a trailer but as I said that was a few years ago.

There is a ramp near the mouth of the Breakfast Creek on the Newstead side.

The one at brekkie creek is behind the seafood joint.
I was there a month or so ago and a kayaker said it has a steep drop off so dont reverse in too far.
I think the one near the story bridge is for water police not sure if its public use.

There used to be a ramp @ the base of the cliffs @ Kangaroo Pt, but it disappeared years ago. Unless there's another one, the BCC website is just (very) out of date.

Christian, I don't know how old you are but when I was in college back in 1984/85 we used to catch the K Pt ferry to the city at lunch time and after college some days.
There were several times whilst standing on the jetty, mainly on the KPt side that I saw schools of small prawns swimming and jumping around the jetty. They don't normally jump or swim near the surface unless spooked /chased so there was larger creatures there back then.

the ramp at west end is fine. It is quite often used by jetski's and wakeboard boats. Plenty of parking, although you really need someone with you to hold the boat while you park the car. There are some temporary traffic lights on the road along the river that are the only problem. They never seem to turn green! From there it is a good run. Went for a afternoon run from there the other day and there were some good fish on the sounder the Southbank side of the goodwill bridge. Didn't have time for a fish so unsure what they were. Maybe catties. Best of luck.
