The tailor come up into the SEQ coast at this time of year, if you plan to do some beach fishing.
The other beach buddies run year round.

hey...
Just what Barkers Creek said...
i like goin for the winter whiting along the beaches and using live yabbies, worms or prawns usually works the best..... Bream are best in Mid- winter, Salmon are best from August to December, mulloway (jew) are best when there is heavy run-off from rain and Mangrove jack best in summer in day and night...

Bream school up in the mouths of estuaries during mid-winter to spawn and can be targeted on the big tides from about May to early August - best by far at night. I consider the estuaries which discharge directly into the ocean (like the Tweed, Jumpinpin, Mooloola, Maroochy and Noosa Rivers) are better than those that discharge into the bay (like the Brisbane, Caboolture rivers and the Bribie Passage).
Tailor move along the coast and through the bay during winter also. They also move into the mouths of the estuaries at night on the rising tides and can be found in places like the Jumpinpin bar, near the bribie bridge and inside the south passage bar. I find they are best inside the bay about July, although the size and numbers have been down for years now,
Niggers (luderick, blackfish) are a strictly winter fish in Queensland - I've found July August to be the best months with the Tweed rock walls, Bribie passage at Caloundra, Jumpinpin, Mooloola, Maroochy and Noosa river rockwalls the best places. That said, I think this is one species that could be much more widely caught with some careful investigation.
Winter whiting are abundant throughout the western bay during winter and can be caught by the hundreds if you don't mind filleting lots of small fish.
Winter is also the time to target squid along the bayside jetties and rock walls, either for a feed or to stock up on offshore bait.
Those are the species I will target for the next 3 or 4 months - the best time of the year to fish IMOP. This is also the time which I use my boat the least since most of them can be targeted by land based anglers, and rock fishing is my favourite form of fishing.

Nice tips there freeeedom. I live on the Sun Coast and will give a few of those spots a run. Will keep you posted on results. I was thinking about braving the weather tomorrow and stepping out to throw a lure at the mouth of the Maroochy.

Brave or Stupid???

Hi Shep
The bream were very good at the Maroochy River mouth last week. I threw a lure out in front of Pincushion for a while just before dusk but did not get a touch. But if you don't try you certainly won't catch many
