I guess if it keeps the site free...some advertising isn't too bad.
i find that sort of ad annoying. this one slows my computer down a lot & made the site time out, that happens enough now without any help from that kind of stuff.:-/ & before anyone says i don't have to click on it...i think the most annoying part is it is almost invisible & can be clicked on accidentally when grabbing the scroll bar..8-)

I didn't press any buttons, I just opened the web, hit Ausfish, and went back to my emails, and next thing the music is playing and I thought "shit, have I hit the wrong button"? but then I tabbed back to the Web browser and this rubbish is playing
Same goes for those crap USA ads that seem to insert themselves in between larger threads, WTF is going on with that ?

Solution: Buy a scrolling mouse, and you don't bother with scroll bars anymore....

Don't click any of these FREE add crap adverts either,
got sent a text message from a link I clicked on last week informing me music would be sent to my company mobile each day 6 x at $4.50 per message.
I didnt even authorise it.

Got one and the stupid add started itself anyway. On a similar subject, am i the only one with an ausfish e-mail address that experiences a blood pressure blip everytime I get unwanted adds "to keep this free".

The ad will only start if you pass your cursor over the top of it.

Gets the thumbs down from me, I dont like pop up ads.
Thats my two bobs worth, now how do I disable this feature so I do not have to put up with pop ups on Ausfish ?
Cheers
James
The way to stop any pop-ups is to enable the pop-up blocker in your browser settings

Popup blocker won't work on popouts like the Toohey's ad though.
I use Firefox browser which automatically kills popups, but the Tooheys thing still opens if I pass my cursor over it.
Just carfully avoid the popout (or flyout if that's what you want to refer to it as)

atleast make the thing not autoplay. Wasting my precious bandwidth, aswell as driving me up the wall

Exactly
The ads are the reason the site is free for you to use. If you would prefer to not have ads just let me know and I will look at setting up a subscription site just for you without any ads.
I don't think anyone has a problem with ads as long as they are PASSIVE.
The tooheys thing is an active and intrusive thing which I don't believe has a place on a chat board. Not the content, just the method of delivery.
We all realise the board depends on advertising, and we don't begrudge you seeking to cover your costs (or even make a living) from your efforts.
But it would be a shame to see the site degenerate into a minefield of popups and onmouseover events.
I think Ausfish has made his point clear. This thread is now closed.
