Left Manly at 6.00am and headed out to a special secret island (in line with the leads) :-X . Pretty quiet there and only scored a couple of Squire and a few Bream. Headed off north to another very secret island ::) that we have found. and managed to get a feed together with the largest at about 51cm :) . Threw back plenty of 35's and a few legal Tailor.

Cheers

Great catch Horse! :)

You got a much better return on going to Island X in winter than you did with all of that chasing around the Moreton side of the Bay that you did over summer. ;)

You did not pick the better half of the day to go there though ...

With the bay so close, :D the fishing so good :D is it really necessary to kill so many fish.:'( I like fresh fish,::) and at the moment there are plenty of fish to go :) around, it is a shame to see nice fish caught and frozen.:-X

it realy necessary to kill so many fish.

Aha - another new member. Welcome aboard.

That is what the bag limits are there for to manage, aren't they? Five snapper per person. I must assume that those bag limits have some science behind them and so I see no wrong in anyone's bagging out.

The day does come when there is more than enough fish in one's freezer though and then exploration and quality become more important to the angler.

But in the meantime, "Well done!" to Horse.

G'day

Well done horse

Was that your green disco at the ramp with the white ausfish stickers?

If so, you were parked next to me.

Great catch mate

Thats not a big catch for three families. Barely one meal each. We certainly will not be freezing any. Once we had a feed together we released quite a few legal fish

Charleville
Your not wrong with the weather. The early am was cold and blustery. Came good about 11.00am

Dave
That was us. How did you go?

Top effort there Neil.
Nothing better than a feed of fresh fish and at the price of petrol these days those close bay islands sure make a squire session a little easier on the pocket.
I don't know why some people assume because you get a bag limit the fish are going to be put into the freezer.
If you ask me fresh is best!!!!!!!!

Well done Horse, dont listen to the other wankers about bag limits. I like yourself am on the water pumping $$$$ into the industry & enjoying my pastime. It's not all that often that you "BAG OUT" but when you do it makes it all that special enjoying your fishing time. I had a good day out about 4wks ago & copped some shit on this site from others. In the future i wont report these catches or my pix so all the wannabees can fumble around trying to find a fish without my info. Once again well done.

G'Day guys i am new to all this and the comment on too many fish is taking it a bit far.Im am fairly new to this bay fishing, coming up to 12 months now and fishing is good one day then totally dead the next. After the time and cost in buying your bait ( plastics on board also ) fuel, time, etc. this is not alot of fish indeed.

I think your reports are great and the amount of information is pricless so see you all out on the water some time i have to sought out my Ausfish Stickers for the boat.

Cheers Screaming :D :-* ;D 8-)

Really? thats a silly thing to say, if somebody has a differing opinion it doesnt make them either right wrong or a wanka, i think we are taking too much out of the bay but at the same time there is quite a few people who ive taught how to use plastics and light gear ect, at both wellington point and the boat passage ive helped others out with advice and packets of plastics and heads and locations to fish ect and i also put a lot of dollars into the sport, on most mornings i fished from november to march i could bag out by 7 am most days but mostly kept 2 smaller fish, but am i a wanka !! or maybe fella i just care a lot about my sport and where i go to enjoy it.

Dear alleycat, im not after a blue with other fishos but i get a bit annoyed when some of us who post our storys for others to read & to help them out with info copp crap about bag limits. Mate i have also for 20 odd years helped many others with advice on how to do stuff & towed home broken down boats, helped show others their way over the BARS, & even brought a bloke home from the Charter boat "WILDCAT" who was so seasick & couldn't stay out any longer. I also agree that there is a lot of fish being taken from the bay but i have fished Mud Island for years with bait & have not noticed a drop off in Snapper numbers. Now i fish Placcies & am having a ball. You can say the same for Barwon Banks & Fraser Island being overfished but what do you do?. I have my own rules that i wont Keep a Squire under 40cm & dont take over my bag limit so that's my own little effort to help the fish stocks, Thanks for the debate.

Big hug lol!! bar up i guess its that ive seen what club anglers did in the 70s and 80s on bream trips to pin and broadwater, breaking the backs on little bream and jumping on them to make them legal ect ( happened every trip) and many catches were over 100 bream, now we see fishos using light graphite rods and braid and plastics and really getting as much thrill as they can when they catch fish, and thats good for all of us when anglers respect the sport and the enviroment and get away from the kill and clobber all you can days, also fish is my favourite food and the sea lord crumbed dory is hard to beat lol.

Good feed there Niel - looks like it was a top day on the water.

I know you have a thick hide - but dont worry about the nay-sayers I dont think they realise how far fish DONT go - I have 4 kids - so that 6 of us - we need a minimum of 3 for a proper feed - so yeah - they dont go far and nothing left for the freezer.

Regarding frozen crumbed fish fillets... some of that stuff comes from some of the most over fished waters on the planet (not naming specific brands) they had to shut down the whole deep sea cod industry - off some place like nova scotia (its not there - the actual name escapes me now - check the news section about a year ago) because the fish stocks were so depleted - mainly due to the frozen crumbed fish industry. Just because the effect of overfishing is not right here on our doorstep - doesnt mean we havent contributed. Just my opinion - but better off eating fish from a fishery that is well regulated and proclaimed sustainable (via bag limits etc.) than eating dirty catfish out of a Vietnamese sewer or an overfished fishery in some remote under regulated country.

Fresh is best!

Top stuff again Neil!! Enjoy!!

I see we have another new member who knows 'how to win friends and influence people'!! Why is it that people assume that because 3 people were fishing that ONLY 3 people are going to eat?!

I think AUSFISH needs another section in its chatboards for those who want sanitised reports where they can go around patting each other on the back and leave the rest of us alone who want to catch and keep fish!

As for those who think there's something wrong with freezing, why do you all freeze meat? I drive past a sheep and a cow everyday! Should i just stop and peel a t-bone off every night that i feel like a t-bone?

Take Care T

Nice haul from island X I think there could be a few islands renamed well done that is a nice feed but don't eat too much you could get in trouble from the fish police. I think I should put a few pics of my younger days before bag limits applied it would get some peoples blood boiling here

Best of luck Horse

Good report and great catch Horse.

As for the new greenie - welcome - but remember that DPI&F are there to patrol the waters, control the bag limits and make sure sustainability is there. As fisho's our job is to manage to follow the rules and think of others in the world when we are out there. To me, it seems fisho's and boaties are the only ones that actually do in this world we live in sometimes. ;)

Oh & horse, I looked up on google earth and found your Island X, I was quite surprised they had it so easily marked!!! :D

Cheers
