Hey all,

I am heading up to fraser in a few weeks and am looking at replacing my $30 special. Looking at spending between 100 to 160 on a replacement. I have an older style 650 Alvey.I am after a 2 pce. Couple of questions,

graphite or glass, will graphite stand up to being strapped on the 4x4 etc?

12ft or 13.6?

I am looking at an angler redback graphite 13.6 @ $160 and a gary howard 12 ft at about the same price but it may be a bit short ( the rod not Garry). I am also considering the $100 wilson glass rod on a killiwell(spelling) blank. I'm not sure that I can stretch to a $200 live fibre or snydre glas.

anyone aware of any bargains at the moment. I have seen a glass angler rod half price $40 from $80 at the place we never mention :-X but assume that there is some difference between these rods and the over $100 gear, or maybe not.

many thanks

Alex

Good onya guys.

This has helped a lot. This afternoon I bought a wilson sea coaster 13.6 ft from my local tackle shop at coorparoo. Paid $ 100 for a local product with a blank that should suit my needs, in other words not using the rod more than a few times a year. What I did with the $ 70 I saved on the larger rod was to put it towards a 2pc 10.5 ft live fibre trophy which I will use far more regularly with a smaller alvey. I will take both up to fraser and use the live fibre for bream and dart or perhaps even in the bay as it is still small enough for the boat.

again many thanks for your help

cheers
