Both. different strokes for different times.
Must say I prefer working with lures tho.

Hi mate, I tend to agree with you, but there are a lot of clever guys on this site who seem to do really well with SPs. I'd prefer to hedge my bets on an outing and take some bait as well as lures, coz I hate coming home empty handed :D

I'll swap between bait, plastics, hard bodied lures and fly depending on the species and their location.
Ie. worms (as in the live variety) for summer whiting in the surf and estuary
Plastics for Flathead in the estuary and surf
Plastics mostly for snapper
W.A. Pilchards and Whitebait for tailor in the surf
strip baits, pippies and yabbies for bream in the surf
Gulps, Towadis, SX40's and Jackall Chubbies for bream in the estuary
Flies for longtail tuna, mac tuna but will also use slugs if necessary
Spinnerbaits and Rattlin Spots for Murray Cod

Even then i'll change from bait to lure and vice verca. There are no hard and fast rules. Use what you are comfortable with but don't be scared of trying new stuff. If it doesn't work for you, go back to what does work.

Thanks for your comments... i guess my major problem for me is having patients to try new things.. i'm a big believer in baits alwayz have been... especially fresh and live bait bait.... one example of this fishing for whiting in a local estury nothing serious just killing some time.. pumped some fresh yabbies and had a packet of prawns... killed em on the yabbies till we ran out then got nothing on the prawns..... and a nice cold beer back where we were staying seemed alot more exciting then hurting the back trying to pump some more

both work well.ithink s/p are way more fun.you have to think and fish harder.ive also found bigger fish take s/p.if i want to take home a good feed in the rivers i would use bait.i mainly use plastics well up river with a lot of success but nothing beats a live prawn.
