Fished the last 3 afternoons off the rockwalls in Townsville. Used prawns, squid and live mullet and herring all on different occassions.
all in all 2 decent pan-sized trevs. Sunday evening a 41cm Salmon and last night as the sun set a 62cm salmon fell to a live herring. Still waiting for the decent sized Grunter to come on the bite. Great sunsets and all in all a good time was had by the wife and I.

It's been pretty quiet along the rock walls for myself as well, though there was one old bloke down behind the casino Last night flicking hardbodies around, he hokked up on a nice barra (est 90cm), but we could get it up the rocks, with no net I tried to grab it under the gills while it was tired out and held close the the edge, but alas, the fish got it second wind and the rag i had around my hand to avoid the rakers had no effect, so he got left without a fish and i copped a nice healthy gash down my forearm.

Wow! a bit of excitement
Watch those gill rakers mate. I caught my first ever Barra there and yes the rakers did me bad. It was also around this time last year that it happened and a lot of falling around the rocks as well. I used live mullet last night and nothing. Perseverance is the key.
Next time it's our turn to hook up a big one

hard body about 15cm minnow, it was dark green on top going to alomst yellow on the bottom with a bit of sparkly stuff down the length of the lure, no idea what brand/model it was though

With the colder water about, old pink eye(Barra) will take most baits as long as he does not have to work for it.
Let's hope one of us can entice Barra to take what we have on offer
happy fishing

The rain seems to be clearing today, hopefully it stays away for tonight, I might try my luck again

Waiting for your reports Scott. Will you be bait fishing or luring?
Good luck

I was down there on Sunday arvo and dropped a smallish barra on a frost bite squigy wriggler around 4pm-ish. Fun little fighter but couldn't get down the rocks before the leader broke (very hard to stop swearing)- beware the metal pole that is just submerged in the corner of the duck pond.

hey nonibbles, that pole is right out the end of the breakwater wall facing the duck pond isn't it...

could be one there but this one is right in the corner of the main breakwall and Entertainment Centre, breakwall. Its very shallow and the pole is only about 1m high. Often, a heap of small trevally in the area and some ugly big green toadies.

Never ended up going Friday night thanks to the cold and wet, though I am going out in the boat tomorrow morning, just in the Bhole cos I know the river and I've only just obtained my boat licence. I hope I can pick up something decent on my first legal boat trip :P
