hi Guys im new to this group and am trying to sort out a new rig.
I live near wollongong NSW and am very new to boating.
Any advice you guys could give me would be great.
Im after a boat made by Stacer ( prefere ) or quintrex but only cos I know a few people and can get a great price on the Stacer.
Im after an open boat I can fit with a centre / side console and flat floor through out Suitable to drift for flathead in the estuary or go outside on a calm day.
I started looking at the 429 seahorse with a 40hp merc and then decided to opt for the 449 seahorse with a 50hp merc.
Whilst looking at this I have also been looking at the Dory range from Quintrex mainly the 445.
Im told that the Stacer is the better boat of the 2 as they have the EVO hull and are supposed to be quicker to plane, should ride better in chop and use less fuel….
Sounds like a sales pitch I know, but the Dory looks very traditional to me.
I now realise that for not very much more I can upgrade to the seahorse 469 Around $1000 (which in package form wouldn’t be much more then upgrading from a 30hp tiller to the 40hp tiller).
Hope I haven’t lost to many people.
I have searched around the net and cannot find any reviews of the Seahorse, and most of the reviewed EVO hull boats have the mod pods fitted.
I decided if im looking at getting a 469 I should look at the 460 Dory as well.
Sorry if im rambling to much but i need advice.
Funny in my 25 years of life so far ive spent $100,000+ on cars and bikes and never taken any where near this much time to chose the right item.
Strange that i care so much about getting the right boat
In comparison;
The seahorse is 4.75L x 2.2W x 1.02D
I think the depth maybe wrong as I cant see the 469 being shallower than the 449
The dory is 4.65L x 2.09W x 1.14D
The Seahorse has 1.6mm Sides weighs 240kg with a max HP of 50HP (rec40)
The Dory has 2mm Sides weighs 220Kg with a max Hp of 60hp (rec40hp)
Are the 2mm sides worth getting over the extra size of the stacer.
Would a 50hp 2 smoke push the 240kg boat ok, it will be fully set up carrying a fair bit of gear with 1 maybe 2 consoles and full floor. Although mostly I will be one up.
What setup would you guys buy, I only want really the plain hull with the floors so I can set it all up my own way.
Is the 469 getting to big to manage on my own.
What would the difference in ride quality in rougher conditions be going from 4.29 – 469 being a little longer and heavier and wider.
Again sorry for the influx of questions .
Any more feed back on any of the items im talking about would be great.
Also any thoughts on the merc 50 with power tilt and trim
Cheers Pete
