hey,
i am going to invest in a team daiwa exceller 1500, and am curious on how the drag is. i like a drag that when a fish is taking line the drag has a clear noise, is it loud enough?
Is it a sturdy reel, and would it siut a 6,10 foot rod to 2-4 kg, what sought of braid should i put on it, i am thinking around 7lb leader and a 6lb flurocarbon leader.
;D ;D ;D

Swaters,
I have a 1500 Exceller on a 7 foot 2-5 kg Shimano T curve. It is a well balanced very light rig and I find it perfect for flicking light lures and small SPs. The reel is spooled with 4 lb Finns. The Exceller has a very good smooth drag with a nice ratchet adjustment. The drag surface is larger in diameter than the previous Hardbodyz series of reels and has a good clicker in the spool which is high pitched and easy to hear.
A good choice in reel without breaking the bank.

Yeh they're a nice solid reel but stick to bream with them, all they need is 2 or 3 good solid runs from big fish and the drag turns into a sticky jerky piece of cr@p. Its outright shags the washers and no amount of servicing or changing grease can restore it. This is based on about 3 people i know who have 2500 excelers who i've gone out chasing mackeral with.

Mmm! case of right tool for the job, don't think you are planning to chase Mackeral with a 1500 are you Stuart, All I can say is I purposely targeted some good size Murray Cod with mine just to see how it would perform, no long high speed runs but cod can put up some solid heart in the mouth fights over a period of time particularly on light gear. The drag maintained smooth even control all the time.
Cheers
