leader size for local squire/tailor

Going fishing round Coochie in the bay on monday lookin for squire, maybe tailer and what else might be there.
I was wanting to know what most of you blokes use in terms of leader size. I was thinkin 12-14pound flurocarbon with a 10pound braid top shot? any opinions?

I use a 8lb Crystal and 12lb Platypus Platinum Mono leader....Brilliant combo. The braid gives me incredible feedback while the platypus platinum (Australian Made) gives me a little shock absorber when the zzzzzzz starts. It holds its own on rough country and thrashing nashers!

I run this on a 7' Berkly dropshot rod with a Shimano Simetre and on this combo recently landed a stingray that was about 800 across the wing and would have weighed around 10-12kg (I guess). Thing pulled the boat around and at times I locked the drag and clamped the line with my hand...she all hung on!! Good knots, good line & good leader. The rest as they say...is elementary!

thanx mate. what is the diameter of platypus line compared to say berkely vanish. I know vanish isnt too bad on the diameter for strength.

I personally run 8lb fireline and 10lb vanish leader.

I also usually run 8lb crystal Fireline and 10lb fluro leader. I go up to 14lb for night or deep water

Diameters on both are the same...both .011"

I tried the vanish Transition and it would snap constantly....so i could have got a bad batch! Some guys swear by it. I just know the platinum is tuff!!

Nothing worse than hooking up to good size fish and then losing them because your trace is to light. I fish the same area and the number of times the head nodders have broken my trace lead me to upgrade to 25LB nylon. I use 10LB fireline and you are right; much better feel. Once they are by the side of the boat its a simple grab the trace and lift. I also use the same trace and rig; 2x2/0 or 2x3/0 on the beach below the pin mouth and have never lost a Tailor or Flathead because they have sawed me off. I'm in a little 3.8M F/glass blue topsides; say hullo some time. Good luck and tight lines.
