Hey all,

New to Aus fish and Aus for that matter. Wet a line couple of times around mooloolaba and Maroochy area. However my question to you all is which spot would be your ultimate for a newcomer to fish, i know that no session is a guarantee but what would be your best bet. Cheers

With all this fresh (rain) youll be struggling. That said no-one is complaining.
Options worth checking out.
1 The Cod Hole Maroochy River (west of road bridge.) Salt water more dense than fresh, likely to be pooling at bottom of the cod hole.
2 Mouth of Maroochy, with all the flow, there may be some bream lurking around the mouth looking for morsels.
3 The rock wall at the mouth of Mooloolah R might be worth a look.
4 Get a fishing DVD & stay inside where it's warm & dry.

I have got some Jew in the Maroochy River of late (74, 77 & 79cm)...tried the secret spot yesterday got a few runs but no hook-ups, too many bream around stealing the bait. If you want bream...you are in luck, there are heaps of them about. The Jew...might have moved more towards the river mouth with the recent rain. Don't know why more people don't target them, damn fine eating and give a good fight (at first).

I think you might be confusing the Maroochy for the Mooloolah river , look up point cartwright drive in you street directory and head for the mouth of the river its an easy walk from La Balsa park
welcome to Australia
just don't keep everything
good luck

B-E-N.
When I fished up that way (15 years ago now), I used to get great jew of Mudjimba and Yaroomba beach.
There also used to be a sand spit on the northern side of the mouth to Maroochy river. This had a nice deep little corner behind it and fished well with live bait.
Not long before I left, the spit got cut in half so, I don't know if it is still there?

Mate i have fished many times at Mooloolaba (land based). There is a park (picnic table and what have you) just to the right of the "La Balsa" - boardwalk where cafes and underwater world is.
Straight out in front of the park and to the left - marina, to the right - high rise units with a jetty. ther is a public car parking area and a boat ramp.
Fish close to the jetty (units) as there is a sand bank not far out. I have caught good bream ther most times I have fished there.
Comfortable, clean, and easy to get to. You can always go down early in the am and get the family to come down for breakfast.
As you said no guarantees but I cant remeber the last time I fished there and did no get a feed.
PM me and I will look up the referdex and give you real directions (street name) if the above is confusing. bait I use in this area is chicken breast soaked in "tuna oil" but yabbies, mullet gut or flesh if you are after bream should do the job.
As mentioned above the fresh from the rain may be a problem?
Doesnt matter it will be fine and you will be fishing. Any fish is a bonus.
Cheers and hope it helps.
