shoalwaterwhat a place, its vastness and shear remoteness will keep it pristine for years and years to come, its on the to do list. the whole place has to be treated with caution. crocs and also not being able to go past the tide line otherwise you enter a military training area. the creek fishing and crabbing is supposed to be fantastic. cheers

One of if not the best spot ive ever fished, it has it all. Watch the tides they run fast and you can get stuck pretty quick. Time your run in upstream so you know how long it takes to get out. dont leave it too late or your stranded. Watch out for red flags/lanterns/night sticks etc. Ussually means there is a live fire happening and you dont want to go past that point.

Shoalwater Bay is also a feeding ground for sea turtles, like moreton bay, so be aware of these animals.

They are fighting the Yanks there at the moment until the end of the month, plenty of stuff getting blown up and army trucks running around Rocky and surrounds........
Top spot when it all carms down though....but don't tell to many people.

Yes absolutely check your 'Notices to Mariners' before you go as there is live firing going on all over the place at the moment.
I get them by email and there have been a few in the last few weeks for this area. Check this out;

This is the one you want.

Stanage bay has a lot to offer in all weather conditions which is a huge bonus for a fishig destination.
I would be taking notice of the talk in the pub at night as to the local catches and what is happening with the military.
The military training area is down the coast about 12km or so to the line you do not cross. I have been past there in off times but seriously there is ample to keep you north or east of this area.
Make sure your trailer and boat are in very good mechanical condition before you take the trip.....the 110kms of dirt road can be very damaging as it only gets graded when its almost impassable.
Cart your own fresh water in also as it is a scarce and prescious commodity at the end of the road hence the name of the area is Thirsty Sound for very good reason.
You will find the locals there about the most accomodating ppl anywhere in the world and treat them accordingly.
Take your time and explore the area well and dont be lured a hundred miles east in the hope of a few fish....you will be travelling past more than you are searching for as the place is well laiden with very good fish.
Jack.
