View Full Version : May Trip up North......

Headed a bit further North again this year with the main goal being to try and nail a BIG GT land based. The fishing was a bit slower than last years trip up but we managed some nice fish off the jetties and rocks.
In total I saw five absolute enormous GT's which on each occasion gave chase after poppers but didnt strike.... http://www.sportfishextreme.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_mad.gif
On one occasion I had a HUGE black GT just cruise in behind a Halco Roosta pop and make me shake then shy away...would have been 30kg with ease. They seem to be moody like kings... http://www.sportfishextreme.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif
The queenies were harder to find this year but got a few nice ones along with reds, sweetlip, trout, cod, small GT's....all on plastics & poppers.
Also saw countless turtles, sharks and for the first time dugongs....
They are the weirdest things ever.... http://www.sportfishextreme.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_surprised.gif
All in all another great trip away.
Cheers,
Pete

Hey Tim,
Yeah Mate all types of retrieves....Just the straight lift and drop for the reefies..
The queenies love a big jerk and fast retrieve.
Catch up with ya soon.

Excellent work there Pete, thanks for sharing some great pics.
Where in the Whitsundays were you? It almost looks like you are around the Brampton Island area.....looking north to the Smith Islands perhaps? Just a guess, mind you!
What sort of depth are you fishing with the soft plastics?
Anyway, top stuff mate :)
Cheers
