Well here it is , This fish was caught up at Fraser 12 Hrs before the comp. Caught on 6kg line it weighed in at 6.5kg. I have heard they get a lot bigger but it is the only one I have seen and caught. This is my best beach fish!

Yeah got mine near Cathedral beach Resort entrance.

They are a great fight, mine took a good 10-15 to get in and was stripping line off at will. I thought it was a big ray at first as we had 3 breakoffs prior to this in our crew prior to catching this and I had seen a big ray in the surf before one of them.

Sorry Captain, didn't mean to hijack your thread. I was about to post my piccie when I saw yours so thought this was a better place then have 2 threads on similar fish caught at the same place.

some very fine fish there indeed, I bet they were hard to turn.

I'm still waiting for the day that a big oystercracker like that comes along and smashes my pippy bait.

cheers and well done

I got mine on a good load of pippie on a long shank. Good fight almost sounds identicle to my story. I saw a few rays sitting in the sand in front of me and thought I had hooked one . It ran a few times right out to the back breakers and was a hard fish to turn. I almost thought I was going to get spooled as it whipped line off my reel. Wasnt till I sa the tail that I started to get really nervous and prayed my rig wouldnt let go. As it turns out hooked him JUST through the lip, lucky they got tough lips. Ended up smoking the fish and it was one of the best I had tasted.

My best is just under 2kg, One of my friends got one at curtis islands many years ago chasing whiting with a sloppy rod and an alvey with 7lb that went 8.4kg. Over 300 yards on the first run as he had just put on 330 yds of line and the knot ent through. it took him almoust 2 hrs to land, best I have heard of went 11.5kg

Well done fellas - great fish.

I got my first big one on Teewah Beach a couple of weeks ago - 4.5 kg. I've been dreaming of catching a big one of these for 40 years and have seen some monsters up to 10 kg caught. They always come in to Teewah around Easter time and they just love eugaries (pipis) - hence their common name of 'Oyster Cracker'.

Pro fishermen on Moreton Island netted a couple of schools of big ones in July a couple of years ago - because they could. They got 50 cents a kilo for them for cat food >:( !

Caught mine at night and was lucky to get it in - had just put my rod in a rod holder and went back to the 4by to grab a beer. Turned around and my rod was in the water!

Again - great fish. I was rapt with mine - you guys must be ecstatic!
