a quick question .. when i am berleying shld i allow the berley to stay on top of the surface or let it sink to the bottom to maximise the chance of attracting fishes?

mate it depends on the fish, if they are surface or top water fish then yes you'll want a berley that stays in that area but if your after fish feeding on the bottom then youll want a berley that sinks. for example gar feed on the surface so bread floating downstream will attrach them, but bottom feeding fish like whiting would require a berley thats gets down to the bottom.
I use one of those burley cages with the lead base, i can have it up or lower it to the bottom, when i do that i then lift it up about 1 mt , and the boat movement keeps a slight trail running out...
