going to do a bit of surfing the web tonite to look at some winches for the truck,,,, its fitted with a tjm winch bar,,, and yeh i'm aware some will,, some may,,, and some won't fit it

the purpose is two fold,,,, mrs choppa and i have placed on the back burner a trip that got pushed aside after i fell crook,,, and we've made plans since,,, but the never ending trips back and forth to the hospital made a long journey impossible,,

but now,,, seeing that the visits are becoming less regular,,,, (and not as important) we are pulling out the gear and seeing what is still okay,,, and what needs upgrading to utilise on the new toy

i need a winch simply for peace of mind,,, that is,,, if we get stuck i've got an extra avenue to get out of trouble,,,, which (for those of you who know me) can't be relied upon utilising manual labor gear,,,, (i may be getting better,,, but stamina and strength are still in need of some TLC)

definitely not going rock climbing,,, but sand/mud work is not crossed of the route were planning on taking

i'm looking for a standard,,, (but good quality) winch,,, which in reality wont even be used,,, but as stated,, this is peace of mind only,,,

knowing that you carry a fire extinguisher doesn't mean you self combust

any tips on brands??????

Hows it going mate
I would recommend the Warn 9000LB winch for quality you cant go wrong and there isn't much it cant tackle.
I was recently quoted $2059 plus 165 for fitting from the same place you purchased your bar.

I have an OX on the front its ok and does the job the one change I would make is to get that really flexible cable you can buy as opposed to the standard wire rope. I dont use the winch much but there is a real piece of mind having it and needing it on the odd occasion
Also if someone needs a tow I prefer to winch them rather than snatch saves buggering up my rig clutch etc

4wd monthly did a comparison test on winches and the Premier winch was found to be the best apparently.
Just a note winches Need to be used occasionally otherwise it will seize up and not work when you need it,it doesnt have be under load just unspool and reload wire.if it goes for a swim on your bullbar, service/lube it.
cheers :)

had a 8000lb low mount on hilux for 5 years used it 6 or so times to get other people out if u dont plan using it dont buy it maybe go the turfor style i use them at work often as i am a rigger coupled with a cheap snatchblock they arnt hard to use at all and store flat keep the wire in your spare wheel and store it when not using it
