I'm thinking of trying braid on a light spinning outfit, so I can have a dabble at SP's, and so on. The idea being to get some off epay and see if I like it.

I understand that there are 2 main reasons to use braid, no stretch, and thinner diameter. So what do I take advantage of?

If I would use a setup that is rated 4-6kgs do I use 4-6kgs line knowing that the line is much thinner, or do I use 8-12kg's line, knowing I've a much stronger breaking strain for the diameter?

I've a Mitchell 6 1/2 foot spinning rod I bought in the US years ago and I've never put a reel on it, so that will be what I'll use. It is rated 4-8lbs.

Adriang,
One of the main advantages of braid is the thinner diameter for the same strength. As such you can cast small plastics much further and feel each touch. As such stick to using the lightest line you can get away with. You will find that many of the braids actually break higher than their rated strength. If you are looking to use it for bream, squire, flatties etc than 6 - 8lb braid would suit perfectly. The only thing you will have to pay particular attention to is your braid to fluro/mono leader knot which is the weak link when fishing braid especially lighter braid. I use fireline on my spinning reels, I have tried some other more expensive brands but found I was getting too many air knots. A 150 metre spool of fireline should only set you back around $25. Hope it helps.

I would look at going inbetween thinner than your mono but higher lb rating as well
