Saw a 2000 Hilux 3.0D 173k on the clock standard wheels, this particular yard was asking $15999,it seem to me to be well over priced, the one thing that made me suspicious was it had a new Tray on it, when I asked if it was in a prang, the salesman said the tray was not up too their standard (yeh right), just a few opinions from the 4x4 fraternity would be apreciated, Thanks Whitto

being in the trade whitto,,, i can say that its not uncommon to swap a tray if you have one on hand to up the price of a second hand commercial/4x4
simply add up the $,,,,, trade comes in with a bashed about styleside or damaged tray,,, you offer xyz dollars due to its condition,,, building in an x factor to replace the offending part,,,,,, and hence you have a cheap vehicle allowing you to spend dollars on it and still maintain a profit to cover floorplan costs etc etc
BUT on the other hand,,, a new tray could mean more,,, simply check out the chassis where the tray bolts too,,, if there is any visible gaps,,, or repair work then get concerned,,, more in order,,, get a mechanics version,,, (and trust me,,,, don't always rely upon racq reports)

oh and by the way,,, even though i'm in the trade,,, you can still buy some bloody good vehicles if you happen to be in the right place at the right time,,,,
my new ride came in as a trade,,,, i ""borrowed"" it for a few days,,, and bought it,,
(i know,,, its auto,,,but it'll do til the release of the new f250's)
a few pics attached of a 2003 version after i personalised it

Thnx for the reply Choppa, I can't do anything for about 4 weeks if the vehicle is still in the yard then I will revisit and get a mechanic to have a look, still think 15999 is a bit steep, will more than likely make an offer in any case, Thnx again Cheers Whitto PS If u hear of anything going give me a PM Cheers

I picked up a late model 2002 first registered in 2003 for $21000 a few weeks back. 180k. Assuming mine was at the right price yours seems ok.

Go to a dealer and tell them what you want see how long it will take them to get it for you and tell them how much you are going to pay. Thats what i did and I am very happy with mine.

Whitto, $16k sounds like a fiar asking price for a 200 hilux. They have always kept their value, thats part of the reason they are so poular. 173k on the clock means the engine is barely run in, I would expect to get another 200k out of it with ease. See if you can find out who has owned it previously, if it came from a company in the construction/earthworks game don't buy it. You should see how the boys treat the utes I have, and they treat them better than most. Another reason I buy Hilux's, the stand up to punishment better than other utes. Choppa is right about the tray, the first thing toyota does when I trade in a ute is scrap the tray as they are pretty beaten up by then.
Good luck with your search, you have definately chosen a good ute to get.

PS - Choppa, I heard a rumour at Ford that they are no longer bringing F250's into the country as they are not selling enough. You may have to import one directly from the US and get it converted.

brett,,, there due for release (with fingers crossed ) towards the end of 2007 as per predictions
but we know we wont see them until mid 2008,,,, australian standards have created a prob on the emission side and hence why they stopped em
we had the last 2 in the whole of oz in our townsville dealership,,,, sold em both for 12k OVER the recommended retail,,,,,,
theres a importer in melbourne who still brings a handful in,,, but they modify the truck,,,,, and have forward orders that stretch into 2008,,,, i'll wait
