Wonder if anyone has one of these and how does it measure up against a Shimano 4500 baitrunner.
Thanks in advance.
I have one of each, i like both the shimano is an older one a 3500, (cant get that size now) they are both quality reels and ive never had an isue with either, both have silky smooth drags....if i had to nit pick id say the only thing ive found its the baitrunner leaver on the penn isent as good as the other..eg its easier to bump into gear..im about to get a new reel soon and i think ill go another shimano...

G'day Heath,
I've ordered a 460l and a 560l and waiting for them to arrive - hopefully before Fraser. I have played with Swano's 560 and loved it, he has 2 of them and swears by them. I cant comment on the baitrunner as I haven't used one but on paper you'll get more out of the drag on the Penn...somewhere around a whopping 12kg but you'll have to get in quick if you want a Penn. They are in short supply and I have it on good authority that there are no more to be made until the tooling is reassembled in China. The last lot were made in US. As of the other day Kawana Tackle World had a 460l and a 560l...the local Penn rep thought these ones were perhaps the last ones in captivity around SEQ if not Qld.
Cheers

G'day Heath,
I've got a 460L and love it. Smooth drag, baitrunner function works well, heavy duty reel. I've caught some nice fish on it with no trouble. Have a look at the Gotya Tackle website. I think they have 460's on special at the moment, not sure about 560's. If you check EBay for the US sites, the prices you can import them for are not worth it, ie the local prices are not much more.
I've also got a Slammer 260 and love it.
Cheers

Thanks guys.
One question I have is does the baitrun feature disengage when you turn the handle, like the shimano?
I've read on a few websites that it doesn't. The comments are back in 2001, so I'm hoping Penn made some changes to the reel, so it does.

Yeah Heath,
The baitrunner function disengages when you turn the handle.
I know its all about $$$ but it sad to see everything going to China

Speaking of China, I've got one of the new Penn Spinfisher's, a 550ssg, made in China. I can't fault it. It still has the same smooth drag and feels very sturdy, catches fish too.
