I have a old Shimano 3500 ( not the BTR 3500B ) and it had problems ( mind you I had been using it to floatline for 6-8kg snapper ) with the anti-reverse. I pulled it apart a few years ago and my heavyhandedness created more problems than was first an issue.

I purchased another 2 types of baitrunner reels, and to be honest, they aren't in the same race as the Shimano. Let's not argue about these others, but those that want to know, one was a Okuma Coronardo and the other a Tica Sportera. Both let me down in the finish / quality and reliability stakes.

So, with the advent of me returning to Brisvegas and the Bream season just around the corner, my need for a baitrunner became urgent.

I retrieved the 3500 from the depths of dispair and pulled it apart again. Yep, that spring / wire is still " kangaroo edward. "

I went online to find the Scemantics ( expolded view ) of the reel, parts list, but failed as the only ones to be displayed were the "B" range. So an email off to Shimano Australia with my plight. return email next day for more info. I took pics and sent more info to the tech department.

return email said , send us your postal address and we'll send part, too small to consider charging you for it. That;s service, and yes, it arrived 3 days later.

I installed new spring, greased the reel and all is good. I am now confident of pulling a baitrunner fully apart and servicing it without finding spare screws, bolts, cogs etc, on the table once it is put back together.

A big thanks to Shimano Fishing Australia for great customer service.

Bring on the Bream.
