longtail tuna southern bay 20/4/07

landed two longtail near peel today using soft plastics. using platypus pink 8kg line so they smashed me around a bit. the bigger of the two went 11kg and took 1hr20min to land. what a rush. also caught 5 squire in the morning.

can someone help me with my images. they exceed 100k so i think this is why i cant post them. how can i reduce the size to >100k and what programs do i need

Mate if you open your pic and then select the second last icon below the pic this should open the pic up for editing once it opens up hit CTRL W this will give you percentage ratios i normally go 30% - 30% once the pic resizes go to SAVE AS and change the file name so it doesnt replace the original pic then save away

That must have been what I saw smahing baitfish on Thursday. I was flicking a popper at them...no wonder they weren't interested!! I would have had a job on my hands with my 2-4kg rod and 8lb line!!!

Windows has a great little function built in for resizing pictures. here is how!!

1. find the file (you can select multiple images by holding down the Ctrl button).
2. Right click the mouse (with the pointer on the file/s)
3. A box appears...Now look for and select "Send Image as"
4. I now go for Email attachment
5. It now says something about would you like to resize..I say yes and it resized the images (with very little quality loss) and attaches them to an email.
6. You can now save these images somewhere for posting on Ausfish

Yep its a bit long winded...but works a treat.

Siminikish, what type of placcies do you throw at them? I came across a few today too they were chasing small flying fish. First time I've seen flying fish in the bay.

only caught a few longtails myself, but some fish can be really stubborn, while others come in easier. I reember one of my first which would have been 15-20 kg on 10 kg mono which went for around 2 hours. I was solo and busted it off at the boat trying to keep it within gaff range while I grabbed the gaff! 8 kg mono does not allow you to apply a real lot of pressure, and you are better off being patient and taking your time than going hard and busting off. Good boat work can shorten a fight by a fair bit also. Well done on some good fish from the Southern Bay.

try to match the flying fish you saw, a plastic in the 5" range and similar colour with a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig head and you'll be on the money. also find kim bains article in qfm last month and it should help
